Australia’s Dark Secret: The Inhumane Treatment of Indigenous Peoples: https://youtu.be/4lJUCMKYUUw

On the 29th July, 2014, Australian state environment officer, Glen Turner, and his colleague stopped to take photos of some logged trees in a field. The land was owned by farmer, Ian Turnbull, who had already been prosecuted for illegal land clearing. Without warning, Turnbull appeared and started firing at them, shooting Turner twice. For more than 20 minutes, the environmental officers crouched behind their vehicle, setting off an emergency beacon and ringing emergency services to get help, while Turnbull continued to threaten them. When Turner ran for cover in nearby trees, Turnbull shot him in the back and left him to die.

What made Turnbull, one of the region’s wealthiest farmers, react so violently to the environmental officers? ‘Cultivating Murder’ examines at the consequences of the killing and the tensions between farmers and environmentalists over land clearing.

  1. Land clearing is an important environmental issue in Australia. Bans on land clearing have been placed by state governments. The primary motivator for land clearing in Australia is agricultural production, especially livestock.

Effects of landclearing: Land clearing destroys plants and local ecosystems and removes the food and habitat on which other native species rely. Clearing allows weeds and invasive animals to spread, affects greenhouse gas emissions and can lead to soil degradation, such as erosion and salinity, which in turn can affect water quality.

Australian state environment officer Glen Turner was shot in the back by landowner Ian Turnbull. This is their story and also a story about Australia.

  2. I understand the side of the farmer but I fall on the side of sustainability and the balance that's increasingly necessary to protect the future of the planet. Not only should this idiot go to prison for murder but the land holdings ought to be handed over to the victim's families as compensatory damage.

  3. Guess what, IAN??? Judgement day is coming and you may be flippant about murdering Glen in cold blood 🩸 on this side of eternity. But someday you WILL stand before the throne of the holy and righteous Almighty God and HE WILL GET PERFECT justice for your wickedness!

  4. The only thing that’s surprising about this is that Glen nor anyone else saw this coming! Why did the government sell the land if they wanted to protect it from being cleared? What is private property? Capitalism! If every person can’t have land then no one should get any! We’re all taught to do everything wrong and we’re forced to do everything wrong. If I want to eliminate every weapons manufacturer even though I have a job making weapons and there are no other jobs, I’d be forced to still make weapons. We’re trapped in this wage system like slaves! Because the wage is slavery and illegal! It’s a long story, but we should have built only Tower cities connected to maglev Trains worldwide! No small or even large farms! Then none of the wage JOBS anyone has ever had would have existed! All people should own all things worldwide, and then there’d be equal wealth worldwide, and no poverty! And building T&T would have saved all wildlife habitats!
