In Matthew 27, the story of Jesus’ betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion is one filled with rejection. From Judas’ betrayal for thirty pieces of silver, to the rest of the disciples denying and abandoning Jesus in his time of need, to the way Jesus was treated by the Pharisees and religious leaders that led to his death, one story after another fills quickly with far too much of humanity’s faults. God understands our betrayal and rejection because Jesus personally experienced it. But God doesn’t allow the story to end there. Throughout scripture, God intervenes in the midst of our rejection and reframes the picture.
