Today I wanted to talk about the moment Monster Hunter clicked for me, I understand there’s still a lot of gamers out there that still haven’t had the game click for them, and I hope that changes, so they can too can enjoy the greatness of Monster hunter.

MH wouldn't click for me for many years until 2019. I first encountered MH back in 2012 with the video of Gobul's ecology intro. I was terrified of underwater creatures, so I just clicked off hoping I would never see that again. In 2016 I would encountered MH again through the MH4U Demo on Eshop, and played it on a car ride to school. I struggled against Tetsucabra, and when I finally beaten it, I had arrived to my school. I would end up uninstalling MH4U Demo from my 3DS because I wasn't interested enough. 2 year later, so December 2018, I had bought a PS4 and my sister decided to buy me MHW for 2 reasons, our love for dragons, and it had Horizon Zero Dawn stuff in it. Even for those 2 reasons, I still didn't click with it. I spent a few times in January 2019 trying to get into it, in April my physics teacher told me to give it another chance, but still nothing, the thing that got me into MH was in fact Xenoblade, as my love for that franchise was growing. However, I didn't have a Switch to play Xenoblade, so I went to the second best option, make Shulk in a game that had a character creation, and MHW was that game. So, I booted up World, made Shulk, and tried my damndest to get into it, and it finally clicked when after too many tries, I finally got Nergigante killed. I ended up with an addiction to MHW, and that was further be aided when 2020 rolled around and I didn't had school for most of the year. Since then I ended up playing more MH games from the past, and the recent ones like Rise and Stories 2.
Monster hunter clicked for me when I both fought anjanth for the first time, and switched weapons. I was an sns user when I started the game, this fact let me slide through the first quarter of low rank taking on jagras, pukei, barroth, and tobi. But the bus was easy to achieve, so I decided to try a new weapon. The GS was ro slow for me,and i am still impatient, so I went onto bow, but I didn't understand it, so I went onto the hunting horn, (since I had to catch up with weapon strength, and being on Anja I used the defender one). The fight was rough, as I was trying ot heal myself snd buff myself while the anjanath would ram it's maw into me. No matter what i didn't fall, I wouldn't let myself cart, same as my palico, I was realizing in the fight that this dance of brutish mature and bardic dance was AWESOME.
Now I'm stuck on pink rath im still quite inpatient. Trying to strike, not backing off. My dragon bone horn also might not be strong with my armor😊
I started with Rise back in 2023. I had a friend who raved about World in HS when it came out 2018-2019, but I didn’t have a PC capable of running the game at the time. After years of seeing MH and not wanting to get into Soulsborne games yet… I purchased Rise. It clicked right away, it took me maybe 2 hours to get familiar with Switchaxe and it was off to the races. I actually play one weapon per title now because I figured RiseBreak was peak swaxe. Now ofc, I’m not a big fan of world borne (GreatSword), but I love GU(Hammer) so there’s that opinion.
It click with me when I did the whole tutorial in MHFU
world is almost 7 years old not over just small correction
I had discovered MH back when I was a freshman in high school back in 2012. I saw a bunch of my friends in their 3ds playing MH3U, and they told me about it. Next thing i know i am buying a launch 3ds from a friend for 50 bucks, then later getting MH3u. Needless to say, I was cured of my CoD addiction, in place if a new one. The moment it TRULY clicked was when i fought Ceadeus. The music, the scale of the fight, that fact I was under water having to shave its beard before the actual fight began (my favorite part because the music picks up, pumping me up.).
Monster Hunter changed my life, and I love this series with a passion. Thank you capcom for such an amazing series, and everyone who is a part of it. Since then i have played every MH game on every platform from 3rd gen to now.
played generations on 3ds, didn't like it. Got world, didn't like it. Jumped into world again 6 months later… hahaha…. you know what happens next
I have 2 clicked moment.
I'm a world baby, I get to great jagras and it took me almost 35 minutes to hunt that thing bcs I don't understand Sharpness, then I quit. I don't like it, I don't understand it, this is too hardcore to me.
But after I got my switch, it also gave me monster hunter rise for a bundle. I tried it, then it clicked. And before I'm finished with village quest, I jumped back to world and play it, but still suck at the game, while defender gear carry me until iceborne.
It took me until Barioth where I got my second stop. Nope, this is too hard. My hand literally in pain trying to wrangle to hard to direct weapons (silly enough a Longsword). But then when I stop, I missed it. I miss that feeling and atmosphere.
Then I finallt, after so many hours, watch weapon guide. 😅
Then I know that I'm missing like 50% of my moveset and how to point out for an opening.
Then I grit my teeth, and after 4 tries, I get Barioth to kneel.
After than it's just get the ball rolling.
Now, like cumulatively 5k hours across the series (even finishing rise sunbreak, go back to 3u, 4u, GU, and FU). I'm monster hunter addict.
My Rey Dau hunt is like sub 10 minute. I'm a master hunter.
My first MH was 3U on 3ds…been around since I saw the trailer for MH1 on PS2 but never cared for multiplayer games…I instantly loved the loop but didn't get very far ..then when World came out that was it…was always looking for similar games like God Eater..Toukiden…wild hearts(lol)..also a really good one one PS3 I forget it's name tho
Props on loving the gunblade Ruri…I have a gunblade tat in my chest and have all the Squall action figures because I wanted all gunblade lol
The moment was when i chose long sword and change to next gen consoles so i not longer feel slow
Never, game is trash.
World was my first MH game, and it clicked for me when I started getting the same sensation from defeating a monster that I got from beating Souls-Borne bosses.
it clicked for me when i was 16 and saw that i put 600 hours on 3U i was still doing village quests lmao
Monster Hunter world was my first entry into the game and I was incredibly nervous because of the perceived complexity of the game and the numerous things you needed to learn in order to survive.
After getting thoroughly frustrated with the clunky combat and controls that did not empower the player to react and combat certain situations too one fluidly, I stopped playing.
Years later I gave it another try and started asking myself what things I wanted as a toolkit to deal with what pissed new off about the game. Tried almost every weapon and finally settled on charge blade, because of its versatility m, and because my brain enjoy big meaty axe phial empowered explosions. After beating the base game with 5 different weapons I can honestly say that the biggest barrier to entry for people (imo), is choosing which weapon to use to combat the clunkiness of the game itself. MHW fights itself and the player constantly. Whether that be irritatingly bad hitboxes, monsters behavior being fairly RNG, gear and weapons that don’t have effects that make sense, or your inability to to control your character like every other 3rd person melee/ranged game.
Once you find a weapon the gives you the tools to deal with all that clunk and jankiness, I think that is the moment you begin to really enjoy and understand monster hunter, and that moment feels amazing. In line with souls games giving you satisfaction from conquering tough fights, these games reward mastery of weapons and monster knowledge in the exact same way.
I started with 3u based off a suggestion from a friend as well. He taught me some base mechanics with the skill point system and quest board stuff. i loved the concept of teamming up with others and hunting monsters. I felt the urge to "get better" and really understand the game. I have grown to really appreciate this series and has become my favorite franchise. Thank you Capcom and the MH team, as well as the community. I have met some really cool ppl online due to this series.
I started playing with the World beta, and got the game on launch. I'm one of those weirdos who clicked with the game instantly with no help. But my brothers didn't, so I need to get them attached with the new game
Monster Hunter Rise was the first monster hunter game i played, and it clicked about 2 and a half hours into the game once i got a basic understanding of the combat. It just pains me that it took me looking for a game to play because i was bored to finally try Monster Hunter
It clicked for me when I beat Barroth. I was pretty much fighting an uphill battle in MH3 when I first started, and various hunts felt incredibly difficult. Barroth felt especially hard at that time. The sense of accomplishment felt incredible!
My first delve into MH was on the PSP shortly after I joined the Marine Corps. I never got more then maybe 10 hours into it. It wasn't the game, but Im just not a fan of portable gaming.
Next, I attempted to get into MH Tri on the 3DS. Same issue, still stuck on pprtable. Then I got MH3U on wii u. That time it didnt stick, but I was a brand new father and didnt really have a ton of time.
Finally, I saw world was going to be released on xbox about a week before launch. That time I commited. From world, I feel in love with the game. I soloed every monster. Ive bought it and Iceborn about 6 or 7 times. Twice for me, 2 copies for each son, and a few friends. Ive soloed every monster all the way through to fatalis.
Ive played rise on PC but I really struggle to understand that game.
I have tried to play GU. I even bought a switch oled, but havnt had a ton of time and it hasnt caught my attention.
So far put of the 5 MH games, world was really the only one ive clicked with. I also have Wilds delux edition keyed up and ready. Loved the hell out of the demo.
Question ruri, if I started MH on psp with freedom unite, didn’t finish it, couldn’t get friends to join and never touched MH until MHW, does make me a second fleeter or a fifth fleeter ?!?!? 😂
3 weeks ago. I started and now I’m obsessed with MH
I started with MHF. Played MHF2 and started to "get it" in MHF2U. But when I got a 2DS (oddly comfortable handlheld) with MH3U, it really actually clicked, and I understood all the things. Love this series!
