On January 3rd, 1943 a group of 72 B-17 Flying Fortresses were on a bombing mission in occupied France. Their target was a heavily fortified German U-boat base at St. Nazaire, an important strategic location for the Kriegsmarine during the Battle of the Atlantic. Inside a B-17 named Snap! Crackle! Pop! was 24-year-old Staff Sergeant Alan Magee in the position of ball turret gunner. Magee was on his seventh and last combat mission during which he was sucked out of the B-17 at an altitude of 20,000 feet without a parachute!

  2. This is a great video, one of the best you've ever made, but there is one minute error. P-51's did have the range to follow the B-17s and B-24s to the Reich and back, so they did have enough fuel for the trip. And in 1943, there were barely any Mustangs arround, most of the prototypes, so it was most likely P-47s or P-38s escorting the mighty bombers.

  3. Je suis né et je vis à Saint Nazaire.
Mon papa et ma maman m'ont raconté ce qu'ils ont vécu pendant les bombardements des alliés sur la base sous-marine Allemande.
Des moments qui ont marqué leurs vies à jamais !

  4. 4:42 I’m pretty sure I have the B-17 E right now and I’ve gotten in some pretty bad situations, one of which I actually lost my horizontal stabilizers making it nearly impossible to land, and on my way back to the base I lost three engines as well, but I did manage to land next to the airfield.

  5. Human drama, horror explained in details… And to have a "Play War Thunder now!" promo with a happy voice, then, to use a bomb written "Like and comment" on it is of very poor taste and shows lack of respect. Thousands of brave souls were killed in these events for you to have the live you have today…. To use is as an ad placement is really a poor judgement and show a lack of respect. That is sad because the content is really well documented and of high quality.

  6. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🇺🇸🇳🇴 NORWAY'S SEAL OF APPROVAL — I have heard about Staff Sergeant Alan Magee. But not in this much detail! Wow! What an amazing story! Thank you, Yarnhub!

  7. 6000メートルからの自由落下って考えただけで背筋が凍ったわ。普通は原型留めないくらいクチャクチャになっちゃうだろうに本当に運がいい。
