A couple of examples of poor research is the "superiority" of Iranian military over the Saudis and leaving Israel out of the equation. The Chinese PLA have not planned, supported and carried out a major military operation since their ridiculous failure against Vietnam. They have never fought a major naval engagement since the age of sail. Bogus assessments of Russian military capability prior to their disastrous adventure in Ukraine were similar to your generous generalization of Chi Com PLA capabilities.

This whole idea that "countries have too much to lose to start WW3" is provably false and is actually harmful to continue to spread. Economic interdependence has yet to stop any major conflicts….not to mention people said that before WW2 as well. China has said very plainly that they will not just let Taiwan do its own thing indefinitely. Plus with the war in Ukraine escalating and the more Putin gets backed into a corner, the more likely it is the rest of the world gets dragged in. So yeah…the chance of WW3 popping off is actually quite high (definitely higher than its been since the end of the Cold war, and arguably higher than at many points during the Cold War). We as a society need to seriously prepare for, and start looking at these possibilities rationally and not from "what we want to happen" or buy into these easily disproven ideas that the modern world is too interconnected to have a world war.

IF the Suez-canal is destroyed or closed – the ONLY sea route to East-Asia is via South Africa and the Cape of Storms. Also – South Africa has vast – VAST – resources like coal and iron and copper and gold and even some uranium; not to mention its old apartheid-era industrial basis – which could be a prime target for a powerful country who just lost their own industrial basis… And I think a civil war is already looming over our heads in South Africa – the tensions between all the tribes and ethnic groups will boil over at some point – and what better excuse could the US or China want to send a "peacekeeping force" and basically colonize us…

Greenland host a US Space force base, Thule Air base. It's not a huge base by US standards but large by Greenland standards. Greenland would be a target for anyone launching a nuclear strike.
