I like this story, you've taken great care to show how events playing out differently would have a marked effect on how the characters developed. Without Rey's and Ben's connection, the influence of Snoke (and Palpatine) seeps deeper into him. Luke also doesn't get the sense that he's made the same mistake teaching Rey as he did with Ben, so he's not as nihilistic in this story either. Like you said, despite how often people rag on the Canto Bight side-plot, it was an important step in Finn's character development and missing it also has its consequences.
If I had to offer some criticism, I think the ending still lines up too closely with what we see in canon. Almost the same characters live or die by the end, Kylo still has his eventual turn towards the light, and the Sith are defeated. The journey to the end is different, and I'm not discounting the value of that, but I think you could have pushed the limits of this concept a little further. For example, if we assume that it's Rey's influence that allows Ben to turn away from the Dark Side, then maybe without their dyad he sinks even deeper into darkness. I think it's possible that he still rebels against Snoke, but only with the intent of claiming power for himself.
Either way, great work again. There's a lot of fun potential for What Ifs in the sequels and I'm always interested in seeing where these stories go.
