Mace is the better dualist, but Palpatine is head and shoulders above him when it comes to wielding the force and Mace is missing a hand. Palpatine should’ve mopped the floor with him in short order yet this fight seems to keep Palpatine on the back foot the entire time, and Mace doesn’t seem inconvenienced by the lost hand in the slightest.
Over and over again Maces moves were situational and seem to always present themselves to keep Palpatine from landing a single strike. Windu is literally punching Palpatine and not being electrocuted, suspension of disbelief here has to be extreme in order for Windu to survive more than a few seconds of conflict against Palpatine without a light saber to block force lightning

I think Anakin did deserve to omit his betrayal here. He didn’t hurt any younglings, he just wanted to bond with Mace, and he figured that sharing the same prosthetic hand.
