The story of Avatar the Last Air Bender is one of many things. Primarily, it’s a coming of age story that centers around a protagonist who is between being a kid and being an adult, who’s trying to find his footing in a world that expects too much of him. To many, this theme is all but too familiar to them. One of the defining moments in Aang’s life however was his decision to run away, attempting to hide from the responsibilities that came with being the Avatar. He carried guilt with him for much of his life, feeling that he had betrayed his friends and family by not being there. But the truth is known that if Aang had been there when the Fire Nation attacked, he would also have been killed. So the interesting thing to wonder is what would have happened if Aang had stayed behind with the Air Benders? What if he had been there during the attack? What if he died? And for the sake of it, let’s question what if Katara had been the Avatar instead while we’re at it.

Dont hate me but in my opinion she would have been better than abg since she was trained by legit professionals dont get me wrong aang was trained by really good benders but the white lotus are only the best benders and there alot wiser
I feel like katara would recognise the name Aang even if she doesn’t know who it belongs to like how Aang knows the names of previous avatars when looking at their statues

One note for this, technically Zuko would not have been there in the end as he would have still been banished in this what if scenario
If Aang died, there would only be 3 elements, if Zhao killed the moon spirit, Katara would be the master of all 2 elements.

For Katara to have been Aang and would have had to survive long enough for Katara do you have been born. And would have basically had to become an old man and survived the attack on the air temples.

Y is zuko evil? He would still be banished and I feel that zuko would still learn a lot from iro even without aang being the avatar, so long as the avatar was still hunted

I feel like Zuko and Katara would make a better couple, so I’ve always imagined a alternate timeline where Aang doesn’t leave the temple, fights the fire nation, and triggers the Avatar state when he sees Gyatso’s dead body, ending Sozin’s life or at least forcing him to retreat, he lives his life and dies in battle but not before he ends the war, when he dies Katara is born and becomes the Avatar. Then I imagine Katara learns the 4 elements normally, and since the Fire Nation isn’t hostile anymore I assume Zuko would be more kindhearted and when Katara goes to the Fire Nation to learn the fire element they meet.
