The war of 1812 is often overlooked but it could have changed everything if events played out slightly differently. Today I am going in depth to explore what would have happened if the United States defeated Britain in 1812.

  1. One big thing I immediately noticed was missed.

In that time, the "Republicans" are not the "Republican" party of today. That was the "Democratic-Republican Party", which would eventually become the modern Democratic Party. That was the group that supported the war.

Against the war was the Federalist Party. They would dissolve by 1835 and be replaced by the Whig Party. Which then dissolved in 1856 and was replaced by the modern Republican Party. So in reality, in modern terms the Democrats supported the war and the Republicans opposed it.

One should always explain things like this when looking at history, to avoid giving a false belief in the viewer of the politics of the era.

  2. The south would have much less slavery as the practice would die out around 1840 which would also lead to no lost cause myths no Jim and no racial unfair laws thus there would also be less racism in the modern day south

  3. Both Florida and Quebec would be divided, in order to create divisive rivalries between the non-English populations there. Cape Breton wouldn't be a separate state, with its tiny population and no reason for reforming Americans to pay attention to the separation of former British colonies.

  4. The way I would see it is that the lack of detente between Britain and America here would result in a deepening of America’s relations with Tsarist Russia (which were already very amicable in our timeline). With anti-British sentiment, the Americans would likely view the Russians (who were viewed with a lot of existential dread by the British and later by the Germans) as “our ally in the region”

  5. I don't agree. I think that French Victory at Waterloo was near impossible. The Prussians were upon him, and, Napoleon would need time he would not get. A massive Prussian army would still meet him, and Waterloo would have seen high French Casualties. Also, if Virginia didn't succeed, the war would have ended in weeks. In addition, why did your map butcher the western states? And finally, I think the scenario is impossible as America could never have won in 1812. Canadian Militia's would have stopped them.

  6. it never could have happened. Canadians are fiercely independant, and the cost of occupying us would be far too expensive to make it worth it, we would never win a straight up fight, but we look just like you, we sound just like you, we know EVERYTHING about you. we would hit your cities with terror strikes, we would blend in with your people until we strike, then we vanish again until we next attack. American soldiers will never be safe in our country, american citizens would sleep in fear wondering when the next car bomb goes off killing another family of americans. to occupy canada would without a doubt cost America far more than it could afford, and it would result in the republicans never winning another election considering Canadian politics.

  7. Very very interesting alternate history. I would like to note that I don't think Texas would have been against slavery since that was the main driving force behind the Texas war of independence. American slave owners were upset with the new Mexican government for outlawing slavery in 1821. Another big point is statehood for hispanic lands. This would have been unlikely since southern politicians despised the idea of POC having the same rights as white Americans. This is one of the many reasons the US didn't annex Mexico after the war.

  8. Im curious how this timelines ww2 would go. Would the US ally with Germany? Would the Germans successfully manage to force the Soviet Union to surrender? And would Britian be successfully invaded by the Axis? Its very possible the Axis could've won in this timeline wothout th inclusion of this alternative US.

  9. When it comes to whether or not this (based) alternate USA would intervene in ww1 depends on whether or not Germany does unrestricted submarine warfare and sends the zimmerman telegram

  10. I feel like a lot states of Canada would fewer and larger similar to our own timeline, a country like Quebec and Ontario existing i see very possible also splitting Texas into two states possibly New Mexico (in a different shape), Trinity, and California two states. Also one of those states is going to be name Madison

  11. I dont think the US would've pushed for California or any of the other Mexican territories since the whole point of manifest destiny was to reach the Pacific Ocean. Since they already had Oregon in this timeline, war wouldn't have made much sense.

  12. i think the relation among american countries would be more close in this timeline. i mean, if USA defeat Canada in 1812, the hispanic would take more atention to the north-american war theatre but the european. Remember that the independencies of latin america was possible with the help of the gringos in the decade of 1810.

  13. I think it would also be fun to think that with more land taken by Mexico by the US, Mexico would be unable to quell rebellions and rise ups resulting in an early Federal Republic of Central America that the US would take an interest in. Would probably be something similar like the US in the Philippines after the Spanish American war, of Spanish, Native and American influences.

  14. You pointed to the wrong thing with your sign about Cape Breton @ 13:40 🙁 You were pointing at what was likely supposed to be Prince Edward Island. It is worth noting Cape Breton did have an independence movement (on the scale of a province) though. When mentioning it at 15:50 you color in both PEI and Cape Breton as the same province – something which would be cool, actually, two islands as one state. Still… had to comment.

  15. I think it would have involved itself slightly in WW1. During WW1 the British intercepted the Zimmermann note that basically asked mexico to invade the US. In this timeline it flips to the British asking and the Germans intercepting and warning America of even more British interference. America will first crush mexico and take the rest of it. Maybe they'll start raiding British convoys and sending aid to Germany. Beyond that they'll just sit back and watch.

  16. I believe the national anthem would either be "America the Beautiful" or "My Country 'Tis of Thee" die to their more elegant sounds. "This Land is Your Land" is to folky and not enough like an anthem, and "Good Bless America" wouldn't sit well at the time because people were still staunchly against religion in government. Remember, it wasn't until the early 1900s that God was added to the pledge, currency, and the national anthem. "Hail Colombia" also likely wouldn't work because that would rely on the movement to change the country's name to Colombia actually succeeding, which likely would not have been changed by this victory.

  17. I think the US would stay neutral in WWI, unless attacked.
Since the US wouldn't be sending arms overseas, it would be doubtful any side would intentionally attack.
What has to be considered though is how the US has a large german-ancestry population, and by the start of WWI many could be first generation immigrants.
if the US took the side of Germany, the whole outcome of WWI would change.

  18. With all of the lands of unexplored Canada, the US may not have purchased Alaska in 1867 as there was no need for it. Russia, or some other buyer, may be occupying it today.
