Futurist propellerheads who fetishize the techno-triumphalist future are kidding themselves. We're probably going to go extinct like any other species, possibly quicker than average because intelligence is a lousy long-term survival strategy for an organism. Not everything is an engineering issue.
I'd expected you might cover the potential issue of a human's inability to live for long periods anywhere other than Earth. We still don't know if artificial gravity would be effective in the long run for a sustainable human population.
I do not like the TITLE here because we have already put people on the MOON. The real question should be if we cannot leave the SOLAR SYSTEM. Already NASA has long term plans for MARS mission. Its the SOLAR system we cannot leave. The furthest planets in our solar system are several thousand times closer than the nearest stars are.

I apologize for being the bringer of bad news. Earth is our Hell, it is our prison that we are tasked to make best with what we have. It is not unlike the prison inmate who gazes out the sliver of his cell window to see the employees of said prison get into their cars and leave. Like the inmate, we have been relegated during the night to only be able to gaze at the wonders of the universe, and it's pinpricks of speckled light. We know what space is out there, what wonders there are to be seen, yet we cannot touch it, and we cannot know. This is because each and every one of us has done something at some time or another, maybe in a previous life, that has cursed us to this prison planet. Don't believe me? All you must do is calm yourself, take time, close your mouth, sit and look at the actions of the souls around you and what they do. We're never getting off this prison planet until we choose on our own, to do the right things in life. I just hope the universe has patience enough to allow us to reach that point. Earth is Hell. Make what you will of this Hell.
I prefer the question: " what if we choose to rebuild the Earth and live in harmony with it?" yes the 'asteroid impact' scenario is important, and I think cooling Venus and warming Mars make sense in future centuries… but to me the "failure" of protecting Earth with all our will and all our tech is more of a terrible prospect than the "failure" of not leaving it to mess up other places.
If we really can't leave Earth then I'm convinced the human race is finished. The only question is "when".
Colonizing is cooler thou because you get start from scratch. Earth has too much attachment which can prevent change or development.
Simple historical monuments could Prime real estate. But is unable to be used. And the historical monuments just keep growing along with history.
Let me save you the watch: if we can't leave earth, we'll get extinct.
If we can never leave this mud ball of a planet then it will be, as it has been for all other life forms. Our cradle and our grave.

Finally, a realistic topic
Every year there's a chance of nuclear war and human extinction. Statistically, it is inevitable to happen within this century, while "colonizing" another planet is scientifically close to impossible, not to mention no need/desire for it whatsoever. What could have saved our species was eugenics, but that topic now being a taboo to even mention, this is it for us.
Our sun "is just another star" is incredibly disingenuous… No, it is not, it is rare, our son is rare in both size and material composition, and Earth might as well be completely unique in the entire galaxy.

You breed eat and exploit yourselves into an extinction way before anything nature plays its hand, the fact is that the urgency regarding space travel is about humanity trying to run away from its self, its pityful really.
Well, get used to the idea, because we're not going to be leaving.
Why do we assume the population will become smart enough to survive? Population increases from levels we are at now only promise more disagreements, fracturing, resource claims and counter-claims, patchwork solutions to ever-increasing numbers of population-growth-generated disputes and environmental complexities….and the seemingly undying, widespread human impulse toward greed, selfishness and narcissism that all too often blinds people toward reaching (or even beginning to initiate action toward achieving) goals based on the "greater good" on the kind of mega-level scale that solving the big big issues demands.
Seems the very first order of business is to vastly improve the human soul, our ethical and moral behaviors in the here and now. If we can't seem to do that now, then…when? When will that happen?
Think, a stable world civilization that is stable over 6.5 billions years. That never evolves to be smarter or even as smart as today.
Until we figure out how to shield ourselves from radiation out there.. we can't go anywhere..

When i was younger i saw humanity futur as " the garderners of space " , terraforming dead worlds into earth like planets , i was reading alot of science magazines about mars terraformation and "aliens" terraformation of lv-426, had an impact on me as a kid of the 90's. But now im an adult and i don't see humanity getting out of the solar system or even earth. I could write a whole f-ing essay on how "unrealistic" and "unfeasible" technologically, biologically,psychologically insterstellar travel is . If you think about wormsholes and FTL drives ,you're still a child .

What is the limit of human population? Must breath after 3 min max. Drink water every 3 days minimum. Eat food after 40 days + 10 days max. 24/7 air to breath, 2 quarts of water everyday, 2000 calories per day X 16 billion people. Due able.
No mention of people using VR or something similar to The Matrix to mimic space travel and fantasy worlds? Using our own solar system to advance science experiments and such.
Inventing better and better tech to view the galaxy given that we can't leave our own system. Maybe we find livable worlds in 10 million years.

What if, a sort of gaia effect would make it impossible for us (and extraterrestrials) to colonize other planets, for instance by making fertility drastically drop and wither away.

We will never fly with Ryan Air again.
So many decades since so-called "Moon walk" – yet, since then, NOBODY managed to replicate the event. Our Tech increase orders of magnitude, but even so, countries who are advanced failed to even land a rover ( see India, Israel, etc) – this is adding a strong argument to those who believe the whole "moon walking" was just a farce, and just a script played in Area 51 or Hollywood.
We are able to send a rover to Mars today, yet we are absolutely unable to send even just a human being to the Moon, that is, in our door steps ! When NASA declared we "lost" the technology to replicate the Moon travel, I realize there is something smelling bad, and with each ear, each decade passing I am more and more convinced all that was a farce. I am an old man, but I remember how the event was presented to us "live" and just many, many years later I discovered that was a lie, and in fact was a serious delay, of many hours…
The common sense explication, the Occam Razor applied – seems to be we never sent a human there. Is just stupid to believe – honestly ! – in 53 years, we were unable to get there anymore, when today, the cheapest cellphone has many times more computing power than all the Moon Mission then… Yet, the arguments presented to justify this "mystery" are infantile, dumb, or plain stupid.
Colonizing new planets of humans only extends our inherent curse of being prone to bifurcation, destruction, and restarts. We achieve nothing unless we fix ourselves first.
U should do a video explaining Logistic Mapping and how it is inherent in our beings, our nature, and all nature. Other planets doesn’t prevent our fate.
