what happened to dauntless

Pheonix Labs was bought out and the new leadership cancelled a promising game just before it released & this is the update dauntless gets after years without meaningful content. If Phoenix Labs doesn’t get sold or disbanded I’d be shocked. I doubt they’ll revert much if anything in this update, it’s clear they’re chasing player retention through abysmal grinding and providing some ways to lessen the grind with money. I was looking forward to playing dauntless again but that game is gone and I don’t see it coming back. Thanks for watching

  1. This is why I don't play liveservice games anymore. The devs are always one bad update away from ruining everything.

It's tragicomic that the game was better when I played it, back when it had its own launcher. I'm honestly impressed how epicly they failed.

  2. Monster Hunter but you can't craft the three weapons in the game (you can buy them from the real money cash shop) and upgrading them is done via arbitrary tokens the highest tier of which is locked behind battlepass progression and the other ones would require a lifetime of grinding even disregarding the in game currency gating the special hunts that reward you with those weaker tokens… probably the least compelling sales pitch I've ever heard for a game. Why in the world would you ever play this?

  3. yea this game should be dead, me and my SO got the game to get back into it for the new update only for this vile thing to come out. its so sad to see games heading down this hole of greed. lets hope marvel rivals doesnt head into the same way

  4. If your looking for a new game, try Warframe! A big new update is coming very soon, the games in a great place, the cash shop isnt egregious, and the devs take feedback and listen to the comunity

  5. why does this reek of playing into sunk cost fallacy?
some time ago a company bought a TCG (not so sure what company and what game) and to get their money back they released a new set of cards with a new effect that, when observed closely, essentially meant "is immune to all cards released before this set". on paper, they thought players would now buy loads more cards to stay competitive.

but the thing with sunk cost fallacy is the commitment already put in. if you dont have that comittment, youre gonna quit. and what both that company back then and dauntless now did is render most of the time and money put in essentially worthless. which makes it oh so much easier to say "eh. now might be the best time to call it." and stop.

its ironic really. companies will hire psychologists to make a game and their monetization as attractive as possible, yet fail to understand this simple part of human behavior.

  6. Dauntless was on a downward path from Day 1.
The devs were out of touch since very beginning, lies, backpedals on previous promises, the idiot community manager that is entirely out of touch with reality, the dogshit decisions, it was over from Day 1. I regret having backed the game from that very start and having hope that they still somehow turn a new leaf.

  7. I stopped playing around the time they added an expedition style mission and a huge ui change that was more flashy than understandable. To know my progress got reset and the game ended up like this is sad but it’s to be expected when games like these love to put things behind shops and stuff

  8. I remember when dauntless was playable for the first time. Me and some friends played it, each leaning to our favorite weapons and elements. Me mainly playing to help describe how a battle with an owlbear would feel for my dnd games (shriek legit just an owlbear) and then we stopped playing. We tried to play recently and it just… felt wrong. Idk, the game just didnt feel right

  9. So what im seeing is the already kinda lackluster monster hunter competetor got greedy, and chose to make the game pretty much pay to progress as opposed to simply making the game better

  10. Am I correct on this? Back then the game was basically just monster hunter, nothing wrong with that, in fact I think it would've been good for those who want to get into monster hunter type games with out being clobbered by over and over again by a monkey. Then they changed it where the behemoths just spawned like mobs so i didn't feel like monster hunter, only a hack and slash. Now I'm not sure if the entire game was like that as I was a noob when I came to that discovery, but I wasn't going to find out because I was so put off by it, I love the gameplay of going against what FEELS like a real behemoth, it's big and can swat you around very easily so you have to be smart and patient with attacks.

  11. I'll keep singing this to the hills because maybe some dev out there will listen. Unreal Engine 5 is not ready for widespread adoption! The performance issues the game is having now is not exclusive to Dauntless, every UE5 game I've played has been riddled with them! A lot of these UE5 games rely heavily on frame generation to even be playable now (Mechwarrior 5: Clans, the Monster Hunter Wilds demo). Phoenix Labs made a really poor decision with the swap.

  13. Ok, so I moved to Dauntless from WOW, because Wow had become Pay to WIn. In Dauntless I lliked the WarPike and got it to lvl 71. Now I'm grinding again and can't do things I used to complete with know-how and strategy, because I have a nerfed warpike, and only some of the new game matches the old. Also, more often than not when I finish an event, Trial, etc rather than just the hunting grounds, I get kicked out of the system or the frame hangs and I have to go through log in again. If Dauntless forces me to either pay to level my weapon and gear, or forces me to play with others in the brief time I now get to play, instead of following my own path….can anyone suggest a game I can run on my crap ideapad with a worse memory than my nan, which may fit this bill

  14. This game is literally Walmart version of Monster Hunter… gents play monster hunter world, Rise and older generations of capcom games till monster hunter wilds comes out. It’s gonna be the best yet. Far better than this disgusting game…

  15. At least Monster Hunter Wilds is not too far from releasing, and paying for that game gets you way more content than wasting money in this joke… It is sad to look at how things are because I used to enjoy Dauntless a lot

  16. I keep getting told good stuff is happening and then I see this… I knew it was a downhill slope but wow did it slam down. Over several different updates it already felt like "not the same game" but this is probably the last nail in the coffin, which is weirdly full of nails already

  17. I genuinely can't believe that this is what it's turned into. Like honestly, this new system is a joke. And I'm certainly not launching the game after the new update. I don't care. I don't log into the new update. They can see that I don't support it.

    #REVERT THE CHANGES.

  18. Devs really saw what Monster Hunter wilds is doing & thought " well, we can't compete globally with that, so instead of keeping our current player base we will get all the money possible before they leave for wilds" instead of just keeping the game good for players to enjoy the game. Which in turn actually brings in new players

  19. I hadn't kept up any news of dauntless, all i heard was that it came out on steam and my god i got so excited! I opened and saw the reviews, read new "update" and i got so devastated seeing this… Dauntless dying wasnt on my bingo card for the year… and i would love if they just backed off with these changes instead of dobling down on them
