WHAT HAPPENED TO BIA DOCUMENTS: Occupation of BIA 1972

In 1972, 500 American Indians embarked in three caravans across the United States on the TRAIL OF BROKEN TREATIES. Over 250 tribes were represented in Washington D.C. when a planned week of peaceful meetings between Native American groups and the Nixon administration exploded into a dangerous confrontation between Native Americans armed only with makeshift weapons created from broken pieces of furniture and large electric typewriter “bombs” and federal law enforcement in SWAT gear and armed with a variety of guns, tear gas and even bombs.
During the Occupation, the Native Americans discovered and secretly removed 5000 to 9000 pounds of documents from vaults & files of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The documents disclosed corruption and self dealing of government bureaucrats as well as Congressmen & Senators.
But where did those documents end up?
How on earth did the Natives smuggle so many documents out right under the nose of over a thousand feds both on the ground and in the air who monitored their coming and goings from the OCCUPIED BIA building?
It’s one of the great untold stories of AIM and its a long one but here’s a quick peek at where AIM hid the smuggled “BIA PAPERS.”
Here’s a brief teaser on the upcoming series entitled
ABOUT THE BIA PAPERS…
Much more to come…
