In my mind Putin will do whatever Putin wants to do anyway…until public or internal opinion forces him to do something. So the red line is not where he gets a reason to consider NATO a war party. The line is where he is forced by public or internal opinion that NATO is a war party.
PooTin will probably soon declare it a war, after which he can get more serious, by calling up former conscripts thereby providing a lot more cannon fodder. Also resulting in a lot more submarine based cruise missiles etc. But he has left it too late, by then US high tech heavy weapons will be in place, to slowly drive them back. So then PooTin will be 'forced' to use a few low yield tactical nukes, to force Ukraine to accept a ceasefire. This will probably be followed be a DMZ like in Korea. Those that don't like it can move west, and the rest will be controlled by the FSB. At least by then Russia will be crippled for the next 20 years or so, even if PooTin survives. 🤔

I'm surprised that Putin doesn't view the supply of arms from the West as direct intervention. It's one step removed, that's true, but I feel the line in the sand is very faint. And that does scare me.
The Russians have already won.this special operation is existential and he has the backing of the Russian people.defeat is not an option .the narrative of Russia losing is wishful thinking and delusion
What does a Putin victory look like? We’ll never know!
It's very achievable. His forces crush Ukraine in the next five days. He is welcomed to Kiev in a ticker tape parade. NATO Agrees he can restore the Soviet Union and disband, all sanctions are cancelled. Russia becomes everyone's friend.

I think a legit "victory " that putin can say is restoring supply of water to Crimea. One of his big plans with Crimea is relying on its economy but Ukrainians stopped the water supply which destroyed that idea. I think what he may do is dig in around donbass and Crimea and try to push the international community to "officially" give him these areas along with some kind of security guarantee so that ukraine can't starve them out and lifting of sanctions. It is speculated be may fire a tactical nuke warning shot in the black sea or in airburst/emp attack to try force negotiations
