In America, we hear about China running out of body bags, funeral homes stocks going up, and totally emptied streets. Shortage of food, citrus fruits, toilet paper etc. And then the same medias also report that China cancelled inbound traveller Covid quarantines. Why would they do that if Covid was not already under control.

It is unavoidable. China has been creating this "Zero Covid" Anti-Virus Great Wall against US since the beginning. In Dec 2019, China quickly figured out that virus strand released in Wuhan was Virus War and immediately locked down the city and then the whole nation. And at the beginning, the virus was lethal, and then it turned even more lethal with the Delta strand. And China held up very well. The whole Chinese society was backing the government. To many, it did not make sense … how come the Chinese people would silently accept the strict lock down rules. And later someone from the Virus War Room figured out. That was because the virus strand was too lethal. And the Chinese people had no choice but to support the government for lock down. And once that was figured out, a new strand with high contamination rate but low lethal rate was released to the general public. As consequence, Chinese society splited. More and more Chinese grew impatient about strict "Zero Covid" policy because it was apparent the strand was mild. After struggling for most of later part of 2022, Chinese government decided to open up and the new virus strand quickly contaminated a large number of the population.
So now the Anti-Virus Great Wall is down. What will happen next? We don't know yet but it is obvious China is slightly losing on the Virus War by giving up control over the society. The good thing is, Chinese government can quickly enact "Regional Lockdown" as it wishes. And the society as a whole has opened up for business. The bad thing is, the society is getting more muddy in term of strand tracing. It will be much harder to determine a new and more deadly virus strand from now on.
Let's see how it plays out. Either China surrenders to US and we will see the Virus War easing out, or China refuses to surrender, and the Virus War continues. We are living in silent yet deadly time.
