Yep woke culture has been trying to invade our entertainment for a very long time. Star Trek is one of the main platforms for it. The irony that woke kids today think Star Trek isn't woke enough. lmao
It may seem strange trying to pitch his story today, which is odd, because the issues contained are more urgent than ever. But Star Trek has always been forward thinking and has always been a guidepost to the future. You should really take the opportunity to watch at least the top ten of the original series episodes to get why it was so important. Compassion, humility, humanity, friendship and loyalty have always been at the center of Star Trek, along with the optimism that we, as a species, will learn to overcome our shortcomings as human people before we destroy ourselves though ignorance, mendacity and carelessness. This is a great Star Trek film, and while it's not quite as operatically compelling as The Wrath of Khan, it is probably more emblematic of what the ethos of Star Trek has always been about since 1966. The entire time it was trying its damnedest to make ordinary people care about the future – not just for the sake of humanity, but of the universe at large. I never fail to find that incredibly remarkable, moving, prescient and intelligent. And it makes me cry that we have yet to learn from our terrible mistakes.
You are correct, killer whales are dolphins…. however, all dolphins are whales. they belong to the grouping of whales that have teeth, as opposed to baleen whales.
I know you're only trying to be kind and helpful, but Jesus, people. Do you think you poisoned the well enough regarding Star Trek V and VI?
The Voyager Home is my favourite of all the old generation StarTrek movies
Everything you want to get with the Klingons gets explored in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
This is actually considered one of the best of the series. It is definitely one of my favorites, but I actually like 2 and 6 the best. The inclusion of the whales was actually a big boost for the movie because the preservation of whales was a hot topic during that time. Also adding a bit more comedy into the story really boosted the popularity. The storyline that you were talking about with the Klingons being upset and having a vendetta against Kirk is set up in this movie but was planned for a later story as the main plot, and it does come back around in movie 6…and they do it really good. So just be patient.
Transparent Aluminium has been invented since the film!
Due to inflation, 100 dollars in 1986 would be 270 dollars today.
Remember this was in the middle of the cold war. Imagine a Russian walking around asking where the nuclear vessels were lol.
On the whole whale thing, you have to also remeber that the likes of humpbacks were on the verge of extinction at the time, and there were large campaigns at the time to stop whale hunting. In 2O22 only Javan stills does so, but in 1986 many countries still did. It was 1986 that there was a moratorium on whale hunting internationally.
The best OG Star Trek movies are the even numbers: 2, 4, 6. Skip #5 and go straight to undiscovered country.
Since I would like you to watch the original television show, no spoilers but yes, the time travel method used in this film was introduced in an episode of the television show. It is one of several methods of time travel that is seen over the course of the various Star Trek shows. Discounting, of course, whatever was created for the trash streaming service shows Not Trek: Duhscovery and Not Trek: Pretendcard.
People hated the film due too there's no enemy,
Also the non~subtle preaching…
Not everything has too be *tar *ars….
it's amazing that he's one step ahead of everything, there's no mystery here, he figures it all out within 15 min down the dialogue. And never saw this movie.
Saving whales was big stuff in the 80's.
It's just a jump to the left
In the original series, they did time warp twice. The first time was by accident, and the episode was about figuring out how to get home without changing the future. The second time was on purpose to study the past. Sort of like archeological. The reason the movie was about the whales was because Lenard Nemoy became passionate about whales and preventing them from going extinct. Also, don't worry about the klingon fallout from the third movie. It's coming in the next two movies.
this is one of my favorite Star Trek films . i saw it in the theater with my dad . loved it
a lot of time travel stories depict people traveling from present time to the future and the characters have to negotiate the future culture.
this film shows people of the future… 300 years in the future trying to negotiate culture . put it into perspective imagine going back to 1722 and exploring a city like Boston or Philadelphia

A quick note — the idea of warping around a sun to time travel was taken from the original series, where it happened by mistake. Fun to see today's youngsters enjoying these movies. 🙂
Kirk’s relationship with the Klingon was not glossed over, it will be a thing in the next couple of movies.
i love your reactions ! Your so emotionnal its cool to see you discover why we all love star trek ! 😁😁
Originally, during Spock’s training scene, the computer asked who invented transparent aluminum and that guy was the answer. They cut that question, but it would have made for some nice continuity.
Fun fact: Killer whales and dolphins are cetaceans, just as whales are, so they would fit in with the Cetacean Institute's mandate. Great reaction video. This was my late wife's fave Trek movie.
I think you’ll really like VI as that sounds like what you hoped to see in this one.
No patience at all, expecting everything to happen in the same movie. Then disliking the entire whale plot and gradual pace.
Obviously they could not focus on Klingons because of the probe, completely.
If you watched actual star trek tv episodes then this would not feel out of place at all.
My absolute favorite ST movie.
“Everybody remember where we parked” is anachronism, actually.
