Weird West Review

Weird West is an immersive sim, RPG, twin stick shooter…something, from ex-Arkane developers. With the definitive edition out and done it’s a perfect time for a review.

  1. I would like to further expand on the kind of place Golden Corral is by presenting you with a statement from the Golden Corral to its customers, issued during the Covid-19 Pandemic:

    To Our Loyal Customers.

We're not going to bullshit you about our safety precautions, because frankly, we don't have any. Our customers fear nothing, not even death. If they did, they wouldn't be eating at the fucking Golden Corral. Hell, have you seen our chocolate fountain? We literally just let little kids stick their filthy, dirt-covered arms into that sucker. Haven't cleaned it since 1982. We hope you will continue to visit us and tempt fate for many years to come.

  2. Once in Oblivion, I heard the sound of one of those spiked ball traps dropping, turned and managed to catch it with my grab button in time.
Then I proceeded to swing it at a bandit by swinging my mouse to beat them with it.
So yes, Oblivion immersive sim confirmed.

  3. With the reveal of the new Age of Sigmar RTS, it makes me wonder if we'll get another Hulk Hogan fighting Satan explanation of the setting if Mandalore ever reviews it.

  4. I can confirm that, at least in Texas when I was there a couple weeks ago for a family thing, that the Golden Corral there had cast down the putrid throne that is the Golden Corral Chocolate Fountain™ . COVID may have claimed many lives and ruined countless others, but it has also saved "all you can eat" buffets from its own hubris.

  5. Immersive sim doesn't make complete sense as a genre, but that's fine because neither does anything else.

Horror is a description of tone. Puzzle is a description of core mechanics. Hack and slash means like 4 different things depending on who you ask. FPS is dependent on a camera perspective. JRPGS aren't nescesarily from Japan but also not all RPGs are CRPGS even though they are all RPGs on a Computer. Action adventure is completely meaningless but at the same time you definitely know when something ISN'T one.

Genre is based entirely on whatever people find useful as a descriptor of their preferences. It's descriptive language in the most literal sense.

  6. "Its like if the Bene Jesuit were formed in the same zip code as buckees." This may be one of the most niche jokes iv ever heard, and Im fairly confidet I am one of maybe 10 people in a hundred mile radius that would chuckle at it. Thank you for that.
