  1. I wanna hear your suggestions for a part 2! I know there's some weird old game rattling around in your brain. Don't give me that basic stuff like Star Wars 1313 – we've already talked it to death! Hit me here πŸ‘‡

  2. I remember seeing Demonik in a game informer I think and thought it looked sweet. I also saw it in Grandma's Boy. I love that movie. One of my favorites. I think the game I think about the most that was never released was StarCraft Ghost. I see screenshots of it on the back of my Xbox Box, and I really wish it would have been released. Battlefront 3 is also the other game I wish we would have gotten to play. I also thought the EA game Tiberium based in the C&C genre looked cool back in the day, I can see why it was scrapped now.

  3. Umm, Guy Richie is very much still making Crime Caper films; The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man & Operation Fortune have all been released within the past 5 years (with the exception of Operation Fortune in the domestic market).

  4. 4 things I still think about
    1. Deep Down. Like what happened? This was supposed to be a Ps4 launch title by Capom of all people. And the reason I put it like that is because you normally wouldnt expect a big name publisher like them to just quickly shelve a game like that after already showing it off. The trademark was renewed like 2-3 years ago with Capcom saying it hasnt been cancelled, but at this point it might as well be. Craziest thing is, this was announced as a F2P game, but this was at a time where F2P games werent as bad, or had the reputation they have now, so maybe its good it got cancelled but still…I always think of this every couple months.
    2. Contra 2011. I wasnt a big Contra person so Idk why I remember this so well, or why it keeps popping up for me, but I remember watching E3 2011 and it was a small insignificant teaser with just a black screen and then a "C" lights up in flames and I remember a big pop from the crowd. Then nothing.
    3. Hellraid. Then one was a roller coaster…I 1st heard about it in through Game Informer and followed it super closely. It kept having delay after delay, small interviews, then more delays. Crazy thing was is that the devs who were working on it were getting close with the small community fanbase they managed to gather on their personal forums (before Discord was a thing). I remember all the contests they had where you could help design an enemy, name an enemy, etc. They were just very involved and interactive with their community. They even had a partnership where they collaborated and had a spinoff mobile game release to drum up more hype for the actual game and it was supposed to release the actual game soon after the mobile. Then they showed off more solid gameplay themselves…then nothing. Out of nowhere they announced the game was on "indefinite hiatus", aka scrapped, and havent went back to it since. Only mention was a DLC for Dying Light 5 years later after they cancelled it and it was just the concept levels of Hellraid crammed in to fit Dying Light.
    4. Project Awakening. Maybe its because its by an Eastern dev and they typically stay super quiet until they are ready to release something, but this was announced and went dark ever since. Still doesnt even have an official name. And the websites for the publisher and their socials also dont have much traffic or really any updates.

    Honorable Mention:
Sly Cooper, the show. I know this isnt a game per say, but given the context and how it ties to it, what gives. This was announced way back in 2015 with a teaser trailer and everything. It was supposed to follow after the Ratchet and Clank movie, but after that bombed Sony got cold feet. They eventually announced this would be a show instead, but that never happened. Around 2019 they said it was still in production and had moved to a new studio dedicated solely to adaption Sony IPs to film and TV projects, but even still we havent heard anything since. Fast forward 3 years later and Sony has released an Uncharted movie, Last of Us show, an upcoming God of War show and Horizon Zero Dawn show, just to name a few with no mention of this in sight. What gives? This was announced 1st before any of those and somehow bit the dust.

  5. Another weird case I think about is the whole thing with Keiji Inafune's Red Ash title.

Out of curiousity I went deep diving, and what a mess the entire Red Ash project and this whole matter turned out…

Like, this whole project and its publisher completely disappeared off the face of the Earth.

Granted, the KS was a massive failure, but I remember it, and this project started a year before the Mighty No 9 was released so it wasnt that games failure that affected this. It probably more so had to with the fact that the dude tried to start another KS, when his 1st KS game hadnt even released yet and it seemed a bit greedy.

Also, in the middle of the KS when it was already failing, randomly it was announced that the game suddenly secured funding from a publishing called FUZE Entertainment. So now the KS would be used to add additional content to the game. KS of course still didnt succeed even with that news and he didnt get the KS money, but Red Ash was still being funded via FUZE according to him. So what happened?

7 years later and not a peep about Red Ash has been spoken, updated, etc. And if you try looking up anything about FUZE Entertainment, you come across a bunch of dead ends almost as if the company never existed. If you try clicking on any of the old links that lead to any Red Ash project page or website; gone. Every link to the Red Ash is gone besides the KS page, and FUZE Entertainment cant almost be found anywhere. What happened to it and the funding?

Not just that, but at the same time Inafune was announced the game he announced a 3rd KS to accompany it for an anime adaption of the Red Ash IP. Unlike the game, this was did meet its funding goal of over 160,000$. And what did this have to show for it? Cause I hadnt heard a murmur from this either. After doing some digging, pretty much nothing here as well. Which is both sad and wrong because this one actually hit its goal with a little extra, but not much to show for it.

If you look at the KS page for the anime, its community comments are filled with people who either cant access the download link they were sent, some its just outright broken, and some werent sent one or their rewards period. Not even the studio who made the anime has much information on it on their personal stuff, and their YT channel is pretty barren as well. I did manage to find the "anime" randomly after searching enough. And apparently all that 160,000$ amounted to was a single 23 minute episode and thats it. Its more of a short movie, or a concept for a pilot if anything.

All in all, Red Ash and Inafune seem to have massively miscalculated just about everything, and thats being polite…Now his studio Comcept, is owned by another company and is mostly used to assist in helping other games get made and Inafune is trying to peddle NFTs…

  6. With all the recent leaks of cancelled games (Duke Nukem Forever 2001 build, Goldeneye XBLA back in 2021, prototype/demos of Dreamcast/Xbox OG games, etc) I always wonder how much time we'll be waiting if Demonik ever finds it way onto the internet some day. The game always looked so fun to play from Grandma's Boy. Hell, even the trailers.

  7. The tv show "When Games Attack" (2004 or 05, hosted by Dominic Diamond) had an episode with Possession, where they showed gameplay, sound design stuff (guy smashing a water melon) and it looked really cool. Was hyped for that. Games like Dirt, and Starcraft Ghost too. Still think about these games from time to time too Jake πŸ˜”

  9. Jake and comments – I’ve been trying to find a cancelled β€˜vapourware’ game for ages now.

I first read about it in either Official PlayStation Magazine 2 UK or PSM2 in 2003 – I was trying to find a pdf of the issue I think it’s August 2003.

Essentially it was a third/first person survival horror game with mutated two headed raptors / dinosaurs that was very Dino Crisis / Dead Space inspired game design. I remember the magazine had this concept art of a two headed raptor and it sounded really good at the time. Probably didn’t even get to the prototype stage unless it became Dead Space πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  10. One I still think about occasionally is Fable Legends. I am aware of the hate on the franchise that really took off with Fable 3 and the worries that surrounded Fable Legends based on the game's nature alone, but something about the character and enemy designs really caught my attention. The game overall looked passionately crafted judging from the BTS videos I saw and its a real shame it never got to see the light of day, even sadder the closure of Lionhead Studios that followed soon after.
