Japanese and American navies are heading for a showdown in the Philippine Sea, even as American forces land on Saipan in the Marianas in force. The Japanese have Changsha under siege in China, the Allies advance in both Normandy and Italy, the Soviets advance in Finland, and the massive Soviet summer operation is coming together and will begin in a matter of days.

How many hours into D-Day has everyone gotten so far?
Another excellent Episode. Strange to now see the battle for Normandie unfolding
Actor, then Marine Private First Class was shot in the @ss during the assault on Mount Tapochau in the Battle of Saipan, on June 18th, 1944 during which most of his company were casualties. After more than a year of medical treatment, he was given a medical discharge…
There should be a special on Bagration covering deception, mine clearing, ttrainloads of supplies, strategy, etc
Can you talk about the Free French?
I believe the soviets may reach Berlin anytime in the next year………….
From magnetic mines to radio-guided bombings to the V2 rockets, German “superweapons” keep being unveiled with much fanfare, only to not make a major difference in the war. Good reminder that singular technologies rarely prove decisive by themselves; logistics, numbers, resources, tactics, & the will to fight are each at least as important
Man I love Werner Von Braun, but did he have to go so hard in the building the rockets? He was Hitler’s top guy in this phase of the war, clearly.
Will you do a Bridge Too Far special? The planning apparently only took 7 days?! How did the allies manage that?
I still try to understand why did Hitler declare war on the US, like he wasn't tied to do it since Japan attacked the US and not the other way around, and he knew the might the US could muster were they to come into Europe, so like dum Hitler you helped carve your own coffin
Anyone want to go to a turkey shoot soon?
can yall do a day by day coverage… for the upcoming ardenne offensive…? like similar to weekly but longer 😢😢
In my opinion, alot of history is referenced in out of date ways like how people think ww2 began and ended in Europe. Its a world war cuz fighting was happening on multiple continents. The Marco Polo Bridge battle between between China and Japan in 1937 should be seen as the true beginning of World War II. Also the Finnish-soviet war wasn't really Allies vs axis. The Finnish vs Soviets was a regional conflict that contributed to larger era that was ww2.
I'm a big history fan and I'm digging this "Real Time" presentation instead of the stuffy repackaging of old stuff. Keep it up!
The battle for the Marianas las islas Marianas, the USN 5th Fleet, 8 fleet carriers 7 light carriers USS Princeton, Bataan, USS COWPENS, Monterrey, San Jacinto "flagship of the Texas Navy," and others including USS BUNKERHILL Cv17Adm Raymond Ray Spruance, Misther of Midway vs Ozawa,Jizaburo, Takeo Kurita the IJN carriers 9, and several battleships and cruisers, along with land based air groups, among the commanders is Zenjo Abe veteran of PH and Middouei, commanding a val kokutai,
The ordeal of landing in the Marianas is very interesting as the 5th and 4th Marines Divs arrive and invade, the air groups under Jocko Clark, a famed USN carrier pilot pioneer, attack the jima islands, however they arrived a day earlier than the USN RAN subs as lifeboats arrived leaving pilots downed to be wandering for a few days or lost or captured by the IJN
The coverage of Carentan is interesting as the battle of the hegegroves rages, and the Battle of Bayeux, Caen, along with the RAF raids on LaHavre, HItler meets mit Rommel, accuses the Wermacht are cowards, ouch! now to unleash the 9th 10 zz panzers div. Near the feast of corups crist Ovierot is captured well liberated by the British!, The Red Army makes advances in Kirelia and theFinns, now ask for food from the Germans, but the USSR Russian Soviets will soon unleash Bargration! the Russians tricked the Germans somewhat! Der Riech has been bambuzzled from both sides from Calais and in the eastern Russian Front!
Marshal Georgi Guri Zukhov was a master general of Kursk and now Bargration!
Hope a Canada ww2 special is coming soon.
19:00 the irony is rich here❤
Amazing episode
Bff
In Military Theory, is recoinassance-in-force the same thing as probing attacks? Or there is no consensual unified (basic) military theory (I mean basic because at some point people are obviously going to diverge) and no single term is accepted?
