Weege Show: SMX Playoffs 1 | Big Picture Little Picture

Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan still rule the world. Bad starts or even returning from injury? Who cares they still win! That’s the big picture. On the smaller picture, maybe we’ve realized that some riders excel better in this time or year or format than others. Maybe. We’ll see.Jason Weigandt walks and talks following Playoff 1 of the SuperMotocross World Championship at zMax Dragway.

  1. Would be nice if we could see any other passes that happen on the track. It was literally watching first and second all night. I get it. They are the most popular riders but def need to do better with highlighting other riders. The pass for the lead happened in the last 5 laps. We watched Jett and tomac the whole race. Maybe it’s just me but seemed a bit biased.

  3. Deegs waving at Kitchen in midair as he passed him was epic. And not to knock AP but Eli should have been picked for mxon and i said this 2 weeks ago. If they picked Eli Deegs would have went. Eli crushed AP both motos and Eli should have changed tires for the 2nd motoif he would have Eli would have beat Jett in the 2nd moto the scoop tire doesn't work on hard pack and towards the end he couldn't get the traction to to the rhythm section Jett only beat him by 1.5 seconds. And as for Deegs he came from 8th in the first moto to crush them and 10th in the second moto to crush them. And what happened to Chance today he didn't even finish in the top 15 in both motos today. Mark my words the rider are going to start trying to take Deegs out in the first moto RJ at the start pushed Deegs into Swoll and Swoll got taken out and knocked out wich was a bad deal. But RJ got his because Deegs pressured him and he rashed bigtime.

  4. ET3 saying he is enjoying himself racing is fantastic news. He looked great and I hope he sticks around a long time. I love that he rides for the love of the sport. He doesn't have anything to prove at this point.

  5. Sounds like the riders have reached their breaking point at the number of races. Looks like Feld and MX Sports will have some serious planning work in the off season if they are really hearing what the riders. Sounds like you have a bunch of stories/interviews to do from the riders perspectives based on a lot of stuff that has been said recently.

  6. Great race. Eli so fast on these type tracks. One could say it was starts but he made passes in the 2nd moto. Jett does Jett. He's smart enough to know a 2nd in the first moto is as good as a win. Chase showed great speed, able to catch the guys at the front often times in the rhythm section, that was until he screwed those section upped the following laps. Chase said they still need to do some work, but unless his team is going to ride his bike through those sections, it's on him. Shout out to Roczen, 5th in both motos and right there with Chase in the first one.
Hayden was super fast (again), but I have a feeling a crash is coming, and that might just make him an even better racer.

The race day live crew was the best I've heard all season, telling some behind the scene stories, like they should be doing, during qualifying (not during the race (Stew and RC). Great job AC and JB!!! NBC, keep them!!

  7. I guess tomac didn't beat jett lawrence in moto 1 people are acting like that didn't happen…Jett was right behind him at the start,no excuses he got beat for that full moto both are coming back from Injury too.

  8. Appreciate that Weege acknowledged the fact that there were some pretty spicy press conference comments about the length of the season, which punctures his "we have buy-in from the racers!" narrative. It's a serious concern, and as much as things are looking up right now, we're only a big injury or two away from all this enthusiasm fading away real quick. None of the riders want to bite the hand that feeds them, but at this point, both Eli and Jett (and probably Chase too) have enough F-you money to push back against the powers that be (AMA, Feld, NBC, etc), and they're willing to speak out, which is good. IMO it needs to go further — organize a riders union so there can be real leverage to shrink the season to something approaching sane.

  10. Unfortunately for Sexton it looks like knowing Jett is back seems to have a mental effect on him and I get it however Chase just needs to get going upstairs and know he can beat Jett or it's already over!

  11. Jett just proved he is clearly better than everyone else in the business on a 450. Tomac got the first one but when it really mattered in moto 2 the youngster got the job done. Pretty impressive for someone who just got back on the bike with 6 weeks on the couch.
Like him or not he is the best in the world on a 450 at this point and i rekon he will smoke the field come MXON.

  12. My thought of the weekend, not that they matter

Eli is in an awesome head space and its is fantastic to see him show some emotions before he edits the sports

Jett is still the top dog in 450, but not in the flashy fun way, more of a dung way

Deegan is the character we’ve all been waiting for since the James days. This dude is out of his mind fast, careless, confident, and has real estate in everyone’s head. Let’s get him in premier class already.
