When landing at SFO you can tell which branch of the armed forces the pilots were from. If the pilot is Air Force the landing feels a little wobbly because the pilot is going "Whoa! Look at all that water!". If the pilot is Navy the landing is smooth and sits down hard because the pilot is going "And Look! It's long and not even moving!".đ
you experienced a go around, it's normal when due to weather or any other thing the plane cannot land! if the approach was not right or there was something getting in the way , the safe thing to do is to go around đ this doesn't mean it is not scary as hell! glad you are ok đ
Amooo la calidad del video.Graciaasđ„° un gusto verlos.
My husband as a former pilot just explained me that Itâs a ânormalâ safe procedure, very annoying one but it happens mostly when there is still traffic ( another plane) on the runway.
Or unstable approach ( the aircraft does not maintain certain essential flight parameters within reasonable limits to land) ( itâs too high from the runway , going too fast etc)
Or due to weather in some cases .
But he thinks that as San Francisco is a busy airport it must have been traffic still on the runway .
So itâs a safety measure so they donât end up crashing .
Yup still kinda scary đ haha
When a go-around or an aborted landing happens the pilot have to go through a check list, and communicating or informing to the passengers is one of the last priorities.
Wow đź I canât believe 3 of 1000 and it happened to me my very first fly EVER! đą
Have had the same squeaky bum moment coming in to land and London City Airport. Totally get why you were freaked out. I was very glad to be back on solid ground after that.
Saludos!!
Happened to me in SF before, itâs really not a good landing spot. My life flashes before my eyes every time since we get so close to the water every time
Cuidado con la caca en el camino.. JAJAJAJ
Chicooosss.
Go-arounds are actually quite routine. Pilots practice them in the simulator every six months for recurrent training. I've had it happen in real life a couple of times over the years. Can be weather, or another plane on the runway that hasn't cleared yet, or similar.
It's so bad that you had this experience and were so afraid because you didn't know what was going on… I'm a flight attendant and when this happens (it happened to me already 3 times in less than two years, I didn't know it was actually so rare haha), you can feel it immediately because of the sound of the engines on full power to start climbing again, and as someone said, the pilots are too busy at that moment with their checklists and talking to Air Traffic Control, so we immediately make a PA to let the passengers know that everything is ok, that we couldn't land at this moment but we are going to try again. And they fly very high again because they need to start the approach all over again let's say, they can't just climb up a bit and then land đ It's gonna take a while until they are free to speak to the passengers so that's why we let them know as soon as we feel it, even if we don't know yet the exact reason of the go-around, just to avoid the panic in the cabin, because it is not an emergency, it's just not a standard procedure đ
After a few minutes, when the pilots are less busy, we contact each other and they explain us the reason. So we (or they) explain to the passengers the reason of the go-around. It's always an easy reason, I always had it for weather conditions, but it can also be because there is an "obstacle" on the runway, etc. You need to think that it is always a prudent action, for example instead of risking a hard landing because it's too windy, they make the decision of going around and just try again on a nice and safe way. You can definitely forget about hijacking when this happens hehe đ
This is what we do in the airlines I've been working for, it's different in every airline, but I think it's important to let the passengers know what's going on as soon as possible, and update them later when you have more information… Because you never know what's going on on their minds during those very looooong few minutes đ
I love your videos! Have safe trips and enjoy in Mexico! đ
I have experienced that before. But it was because of a storm, the plane couldnât land because there were still too many planes on the ground. The pilot tried to land for like three times until we finally could. We also had to land in a random tiny airport in the middle of our flight, because of the extreme weather the plane didnât have enough fuel to stay up in the air. So we had to land to get more fuel. And then I also experienced the worst turbulences of my life so far on that flight where the plane dropped many meters in the sky đ
This has also happened to me at the Mexico City airport. I was so scared but then the pilot said that the conditions to land werenât best so we were up in the air for another 30 minutes. Not the best experience but now I know it happens quite frequently. Saludos desde Chicago. đ
My first thought would have been that something got in the way and the pilot had to do a go-around.
"Pilot miscalculated" – hahahahah, do you know that they mostly fly on autopilot?
And I am surprised – with all your travels, you have never experienced go arounds? Once we turned around in Bergamo (going back toward Alps) cause they have to clear the landing strip or something (someone said something about dead birds) : D
We hat this in Sao Paulo. That was so…weird.
