  1. Can you still call for help from your daughters phone via 112 (i think thats the number)which uses satellite does it? And does your first aid kit carry solar blanket for warmth at night hopefully a fire can be started. Although items can be added of course. It is a good exercise

  2. Another great clip mate, great stuff ๐Ÿ‘ the fire simulation was definitely an eye opener for anyone travelling, especially alone or remote. Thanks for bringing us all something to really think about.

Hey, I hit pause at the 13:55 mark – Toyota australia, thereโ€™s your new promotional poster right there !!
    Well done mate.

  3. It surely will be different in desert heat and the stuff you got with you, but from what i have been told, depending on the sensitiveness of your nose, you will smell a starting fire before it reaches dramatic values.
And it's usually not spreading in seconds after you stop. Sure it's not like having half a day to unload the vehicle. But if you are able to stop when you smell and see smoke from the engine bay (where most start) you should be able to unload everything that isn't strapped down inside your vechicle and maybe stuff in the back even longer. Car interiors aren't highly flammable, and so it takes a bit for fire to spread. Eventually everything will burn, but it takes time for that.
A teacher in engineering school i went to almost 30 years ago, liked to say "those little car fire extinguishers are helping as much as if you piss into the fire!" (he meant they are too little to do anything. Which isn't always true depending on what actually happens. But when it is thoroughly burning, it's too late for the little 1-2kg ones.)

  4. The fire drill was an excellent idea because you donโ€™t have to be driving in the middle of nowhere to have your vehicle go up in flames.

I was driving along a busy Sydney highway in the work truck minding my own business, dreaming of my next 4wd adventure. The next thing I knew there was flames from under the cabin licking the back window of my truck. The fire must been going for a while because the 5kg extinguisher was useless. I had no signs, no warnings , nothing.

    It all happens EXTREMELY QUICKLY.

    Look up โ€œthe explore life 76 catches fireโ€ , itโ€™s a real eye opener despite being a 5+yo video.

    Safe travels ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿป๐Ÿค™๐Ÿป๐Ÿค™๐Ÿป๐Ÿค™๐Ÿป

  5. Fantastic episode, great to see this part of the country, have you thought of having a grab bag with a 1st aid kit, fire stryker n plb/sat phone. Great to see you all doing some practical exercises/drills, something most don't do.
Jeez Sienna has shot up, future sports star??
Looking forward to the next episode

  6. Great trip and info as usual Ronny. How are the temps holding in the 2.8 with 0w-30 oil that comes from factory? Please share your thoughts about oil temps and coolant temps on the 2.8 in the desert heat.

  7. A good honest desert trip, nothing over the top, seems these days most channels hype it up, something has to break, a roll over, something must be damaged to make the cut, that said, the last trip we saw Torbs was a completely avoidable situation, never seen him since. Miss the OG trio of you Wayne and Torbs.
