  1. I think the innovation works when it matches the potential audiences' taste in genres games. Most gamers I know like more than one genre. It's only a matter of their target audience seeing their content.

  2. I'll probably pick up Palworld, Ova Magica, Myth Caller, Moonstone Island (Switch) and Lumentale, Maybe not day one as saving up Microsoft Reward Points take time. Never played an SMT game so i may pass on those.

Not bought Monster Sanctuary or Cassette Beasts as i tend not to buy GP games while on the service but will pick them up when they do leave the service.

  3. I agree but I also think it depends on what each person desires from the monster taming genre.
I'm a BIG pokemon fan for multiple reasons : its world, its turn by turn combat and most importantly : its monsters.
And when I say "monsters", I do mean their designs, but I also mean their creativity, what animal, concept or myths they reference and how they fit into that world.

And to be frank, before Casette Beasts (which is awesome) came, there was no game that really checked those boxes for me and the games that try to "get out" of the pokemon formula (and even a lot that DO follow its formula) often have uninteresting monsters, or a world that feels kinda flat or just doesn't feel fun at all, at least in my eyes.

So while I do support games I find genuinely hype and excellent like Cassette Beasts, whether or not they're similar to pokemon, I'm not going to support or even buy a monster taming game that just doesn't vibe with me at all, because I even feel like it could push devs to think people like those games I don't like and make monster taming games similar to them instead of the really rare ones that I do vibe with.

  4. To me Pokémon isn't great anymore. Over 1000 Pokémon to catch is way too many. Besides, Sword and Shield was the downfall of the franchise. From what I've been hearing and seeing (not to mention Scarlet and Violet being so glitchy), I'm now glad I stopped back when Ruby and Sapphire was popular in the 2000s.

  5. It depends on what someone is seeking from the monster taming genre in general. I for one have never been interested in SMT, and thus do not seek out SMT like games. So I don’t support them as that’s not what I personally like.

  6. Am looking forward to the game Evoling a rougelike monster collecting battle coming on switch 9/21/23. I also liked that one game I saw that kind of had fossil fighter combat where you have three monsters out and you can rotate to have one mon fight than one looks fun. I don't remember the name. BeastieBall is looking fun it still turn base but I like the volleyball they went with.

  7. Honestly it must be disheartening to make games in that genre and have so "little" result when Pokémon is doing objectively really bad games and still sell millions of copies because of the franchise alone. Temtem despite glaring flaws (bad cash shop imho and way too grindy for its own good) or Coromon are examples of really fun games that didn't perform that well (I guess Temtem sold ok but the active player base is abysmal let's be real). I hope that the average kid realize that there are better games than Pokémon out there even on consoles and not just on Steam or obscure platforms. Because some of these games are proper gems.

  8. It also has to be a fun game tho. Pokemon games, with all of the technical issues, are still just plain fun. Cassette Beasts however, which I wanted to love, lost me after I couldn't get out of the city eithout being attacked by random beasts. It was ambush, return to heal, ambush, return to heal, etc. The game, when I could play it, was fun but having randoms move thru trees, rocks, and underground, just became more tedium than the fun.

  9. Any monster taming game will be compared to pokemon and I'm ok with that. I've given up on pokemon and Gamefreak after S&V. Hell pokemon hasnt been good since B&W 2.

I had high Hope's for temtem but it's so woke. I hope to see another game like temtem in terms of co-op but hang the woke garbage up.

I'd be 100% fine if we get a game that follows the pokemon formula cause it works.

  10. I'm not gonna play games just to support them if they don't interest me. I have that right as a consumer. And most of all non-Pokémon like or non-farming/raising games do not interest me and I'm not gonna play them

  11. I very much was one of these people at first, if it wasn’t like Pokemon then I didn’t want it at all…this line of thinking almost turned me away from games like Cassette beasts.

Now after playing cassette beasts I found myself going back to games with the basic monster tamer formula and couldn’t help but feel like they were lacking. I didn’t want just another pokemon game (no hate to the devs ofc) so I 100% share this sentiment

  12. With this genre, I heavily prefer turn-based RPGs, but I definitely like seeing all types of games exist in it. Be it games that take inspiration from Pokémon, SMT, or ones that do something totally original. The whole genre is just a cool idea.

  13. i'm genuinely surprised nobody has made a pokemon XD gale of darkness indie game yet, i know Coromon has a game mode like that and i know there are technically shadow coromon, but why nobody has done that as a full fledged indie game is beyond me. i like turn based combat more personally in my monster tamers.

  14. I wish they remake "lost kingdom" from gamecube ( from software game, before dark souls and demon souls) was a "monster taming game but a bit differently, with decks, I loved that game.
