We need 'medium to long-term plans' to drive productivity growth: Perrottet

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet says it’s important to not “lose sight” of the main issues which need to be addressed at the Jobs and Skills Summit.

“I think it’s important that employer groups have a good relationship with unions,” Mr Perrottet told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“And that’s positive but let’s not lose sight of why we’re here and what are the immediate terms and needs in front of us.”

Mr Perrottet said the biggest issues in New South Wales and the rest of the country are labour shortages and skills shortages.

“We need short-term solutions and also medium to long-term plans to drive productivity growth and that’s what I want to get out of the summit.”

  17. Here is a simple suggestion, to train our own and help other problems as well.

    First, make a list of skills we need, then look for those who are eager to be trained.

    Find a homeless person, ask them all, we have these skills we need people in, who wants to be trained and turn their life around?

    Next, go to all job providers and do the same with all those listed there as looking for work, put the same thing to them.

    You are offering free education, so why not lift up those who need it the most, and will also appreciate the ability to change their circumstance.

    Within a few short years we could have reduced skilled labour shortages, the homeless and the jobless.

    Charity begins at home, so offer these chances to those who need it most and will work the hardest to keep it, as having already being to hell, they don't want to go back. You want trained and skilled people and will charge nothing to do it, then skilled people you shall have. But politics is not a skill anyone should be trained in, nor should it have any place in our schools, other than talking about the failures of politics and its corruption throughout history. Nothing changes, not even self serving politicians seeking power for their own reasons, it will always be what it has been, a cesspool to breeding corruption.

  24. Since when was 'productivity' the sole driver of a healthy economy..?

    The yanks still out-perform the Chinese 3-1, but it hasn't prevented their entire industrial sector from being 'offshored' and 'outsourced' to third world basket cases.

    They really are gearing up to blame ordinary people for this mess…

    Just listen to Milton Friedman or Thomas Sowell… A thriving middle class is the backbone of any economy!

Businesses can't fond workers, because they demand "diversity", they demand highly educated degrees & 5 years of experience & they will not hire you just by the way you sit in a chair or just because you "don't get women" because you "mansplain" to the 5 HR staff who are all women who've done nothing in life but university & party. Stop hiring people based on their favourite colour & what their spirit animal is….. Stop asking for $500,000 worth of university debt for a qualification to get a job that pays minimum wage & then expect people to dedicate every hour of their life to the job 24/7 and do work from home on weekends…….
