The thing with Sentinel is that in like 90% of the different transformers series from the comics to the tv shows, is that when he shows up he's almost always some manner of prick.
Like, if he isn't outright a murderous traitor he's just outright a total douchebag. (usually both.)
That red guy is Ironhide lol, he is typically a red transformer, he’s only really black/grey in the live action films. Cliffjumper was in the Iacon 5000 (but only by name, which was on the leaderboard). And Jazz is usually Optimus Prime’s lieutenant/second in command/right hand man. How old their friendship is isn’t really known, but in this movie we see he’s been there since the beginning
Optimus did what he did NOT to save Sentinel, but to save his FRIEND from becoming a killer, even risking his own life for his brother. It just wasn't enough…
But that sacrifice out of compassion made him worthy of the Matrix

Optimus was following Primus message..Till All Are One..because he wants his transformers to be unified, because there are bigger threats out there. 🙂 Optimus didn't want Megatron to kill Sentinel because he wanted to save his friend from becoming Sentinel and giving into his rage. What Megatron missed is that they need to be unified especially since Quintisons are still a threat along with well other things…like the polar opposite to Primus…Unicron.

Fun fact, Orion Pax was Optimus' name before he became a Prime in the original G1 series (another fun fact Orion means hunter, Pax is peace in Latin; his name means Hunter of peace)
Also yeah, Megatronus Prime existed far before Megatron in the lore, he was a Prime, called the fallen who betrayed his own family, the other Primes. Megatron have always looked up at this fallen Prime, and saw him as a misuderstood hero who could make the hard decisions. This is why Megatron is called Megatron. He took the Fallens' name and shortened it.
