  1. Thanks for explaining your grouse obsession. I wanted to ask you to edit out some of your grouse killing in you videos. I live in Colorado and the point creep over the past few years has forced me to hunt over the counter 2 out of three years. I get to meet a lot of new hunters from out of state, most are big Fresh Tracks fans. These guys feel the need to shoot every grouse they encounter. Some bring .22 pistols in addition to their bows for grouse. Then they try to cook them on a Jetboil or worse build a fire in our super dry conditions. I'm not sure all you hunting celebrities understand the influence you have on the people who watch your videos.. I myself have followed you for almost 16 years.(back when that guy in the vest introduced your shows). So respectfully, for the love of grouse, tone it down a bit please.

  2. Something to remember about those improper ATV trails. Even in wilderness areas it’s not uncommon for the Forest Service to ignore their own rules and use their own resources for things like trail maintenance or rescue operations.

  3. Michael … " Randy! There's a Pope & Young bull standing broadside at 10 yards! " Randy …. " Yeah, but there's a grouse on that log over there! " And why is a bugle tube camo? Put some orange in that baby so you can see it!

  4. Randy, I know the area that you’re hunting, I live there. Elk hunting here can be more tricky than other areas. If you plan to hunt here again get a hold of me, I’ll tag along and show you where the big boys live.

  5. Thank you for this episode, Randy and crew, and especially for the grouse story. Your videos have been inspirational! My son and I just took up hunting for our very first time this year, and it's grouse season here in Quebec right now. We haven't been lucky enough to bag any yet, but we're slowly learning, and learning what weather conditions to go out in, and which weather conditions to avoid or just not bother (eg steady rain). So far, I'm loving the more relaxed "mode" that grouse hunting offers (compared with deer hunting), as a nice way to enter the sport with a lighter gun at first and get in some beautiful walks in the woods. We'll have deer (rifle) season coming up for 3 weeks in November, so meantime, this gets us time in the field to get used to carrying a firearm for the day while putting in some mileage on our boots exploring the trails on public land. I just had a good long day in the field yesterday on our (Canadian) Thanksgiving Sunday all by myself while my son stayed back to do his schoolwork – and I loved every minute of it even though it rained steadily nearly the whole day. Much-needed solitude and a special awareness of my surroundings that hunting seems to bring out. The privilege to be able to get out there as a licensed hunter and firearms owner certainly is not lost on me. We hope to retire next year and move west (back home) to British Columbia. The hunting opportunities there look amazing – can't wait!!! Please keep doing what you're doing!!!

  6. Man the bugle in the background when you are talking about the beauty of those places just completes it for me! Literally right after you say you can’t explain it in words the feeling of hearing a bugle go off in the distance, a bugle goes off🔥 (31:20)

  7. Good point 30:26. I have been trying to put words to that exact feeling for my friends and my wife, and it can't be done. The cool thing is, however, there is no difference in how you feel, I feel and others that hunt in the mountains feel, and we all share it, whatever it is, and we all know exactly how it feels and exactly what it means. That is special and sacred to us elk and grouse hunters. Thanks for sharing your hunts with those of us that can't go right now for one reason or another.

  8. Still haven't pulled an elk tag, but those bugles are mesmerizing. I remember when a good friend saw an elk and heard a bugle for the first time. Almost more memorable than my first time.

  9. That grouse story is what makes randy so great. I love how he is like having another dad on YouTube in the outdoors. It is what makes this so great. Thanks for the feel good story randy.

  10. Wow. I hope you never got 5 grouse in 1 day. The statewide limit is 4 in the aggregate.😬 3 days (12) in possession. And in my experience “normal” wind in Idaho is at my back. And when I turn 90 degrees it’s at my back, and when I head out the way I came in, it’s at my back.😕
