  1. I was 11 when it came out and DESPERATE to see it. We went and couldn't get tickets because of all the hype, and I was crushed. But they told us they were going to do a special midnight showing because so many people wanted to see it, and Dad got tickets and took me back, just him and me, even though he had to get up early the next day. I loved it and to this day this is my best movie going experience ever. It always reminds me my Dad was the best guy you ever met.

  3. Christopher Reeve is THE SUPERMAN for all time. His performance is incredible, both as Clark and Supes. This is the OG superhero film. So many wonderful performances from a perfect cast, written by Mario Puzo (who wrote The Godfather) and directed by the legendary Richard Donner. Masterpiece of a film. To answer your question Superman has been around since 1939.

  4. I was eight years old when my dad took me to see this in the theater. I also remember getting the official movie trading cards a couple of weeks later. It was really cool watching at the time as the only live action Superman I had seen before was the old 1950's 'The Adventures of Superman' re-runs on television. Great reaction!

  5. I was eight years old, and I was having trouble working up the motivation to learn my times tables. My dad told me that he would take me to see this movie as soon as I learned them. I knew my times tables by that afternoon.

  6. I've heard that the tag line for the poster was "you'll believe a man can fly", which I was a testament to the special effects of its day, and also I guess there wasn't any flying Superheroes on screen in the past?
This movie was great but I loved the second one more👍 great reaction guys👏👏👏

  7. @the octobers –
    fun facts:
    – The actor that played young Clark Kent didnt sound anything like Christopher so they dubbed Chris's voice in over him.
    – The pilot flying the plane that superman saves was also dubbed because the actor was British and they wanted an american sounding pilot.
    – The suits they wore on Krypton were covered in a kind of fine glass that had highly reflective properties – thats why they shone like they did.
    – Superman debuted in 1938 and was the original template of the superheroes we know today. Without him, there would be no heroes like we have today. He was the first. We owe him so much.
    – The "indian man" in the car with Lois was actually one of the producers of the movie. He is not native, and yeah there was some appropriation there that would never fly now lol

RIP Christopher Reeve (Superman), Margot Kidder (Lois Lane), Garry Cooper (Perry White), Glen Ford (Pa Kent), Marlon Brando (Jor-El), Suzanna York (Jor-El's Wife), Ned Beatty (Otis)

  8. I was 8 when this came out. My Dad took me to see it in the theater, the only time he took just me to see a movie.

Superman was the first Superhero comic. He first appeared in 1938… Batman followed a few months later in 1939.

Superman had a TV show in the late 40s and early 50s called The Adventures Of Superman which starred George Reeve.

Batman had a popular TV show that ran in 1966 for 3 seasons. There was also a movie with that same cast.

Aside from this Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves of which there were 4 movies… Batman had 4 movies that came out starting in 1988 I believe. Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin. The one that had Jim Carrey as Riddler was Batman Forever.

  10. I was 7 when I saw this in theaters; I did think the opening credits took FOREVER! Christopher Reeve acted so differently in his 2 roles, and I don't think anyone else has matched it. That wasn't a very menacing Lex Luthor, but he was fun.

Superman II raises the stakes, with some enemies that you already met. Superman III is a very silly, cheesy movie with Richard Pryor. Superman IV… well, it's one of the worst movies ever made.

You mentioned Hellboy; that's a comic book series that's not DC or Marvel, but is very occult. Spawn is in a similar vein, though the theatrical movie may not be the best version.

  11. Great reaction, y'all! I was thirteen when this came out and it captured the country's imagination. The ads would say, "you'll believe a man can fly" – and we did! This was state of the art special effects back then. Check out Superman II and enjoy!

  12. YES!!!! Great musical score and movie classic. Christopher Reeve IS the best Clark Kent/Superman we have…and yes I'm Gen X and bias.🤭 Although I do enjoy other Superman movies and shows.

Read one of the best quotes ever below, I use it in my college classes I teach…

“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”

    Rest in peace Christopher Reeve💓

  13. Superman is THE most iconic superhero in the world. In fact, while Marvel have a lot of iconic superheroes, DC have THE most iconic – Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Nothing comes close to those three icons.
