Have you noticed a new train derailment story every day this year? It’s not just you. There are 1700 train derailments every year and the rate of train accidents has risen 27% over the last 10 years. This is a safety crisis. We investigated what’s behind it.

I don't understand the greed of these people. They have enough money to live 1000 lifetimes in luxury. Do they just love hurting us because they can?
Not my town- when I was looking for a house I had two requirements- no flood plains and no railroads.
Just checked, if a train with chemicals derail and spill into the fox river, it could theoretically flow all the way into the Gulf of Mexico.
Greed destroys everything.
There was a movie made in New Palestine about a derailment disaster, people from the community acted in the movie…then the movie became reality. Not to say corporate overreach isn't a thing, it is and does effect our nation, but the thing in New Palestine is in a different class, think greed and abuse of power on a federal level
Corporate Rot at its finest. Short term gains at the expense of long term distinction and company instability.
I'll tell you why. Because for one, they're privately owned, but two, even at that the so-called regulations are laughable. They know they can get away with it. They know they own the politicians and therefore they essentially don't have to answer to anyone.
Since the courts only enforce the corrupt and worthless laws that our corrupt and worthless politicians write, if you own the politicians you own the laws or more specifically, you own not having to answer to any laws.
Imagine if these CEOs' heads started being put on pikes in every single town that this happened in. I bet these derailments would stop in a jiffy.
Old train tracks
Corporate greed with no boundaries.
White Domestic Terrorism? You know that? I say it everyday if you feel sorry for America in any kind of way you a Fool a Damm fool?
PUBLIC RAILROADS FFS!!!
It the same reason a car doesn’t last like it should it’s called cheap manufacturers make cheap products rails and roads are the same made from Subpar materials let’s try plastic rails maybe we can have more problems
by design. no accident. total sabbatoge. were at war. the destruction wont stop.🤐💀🍻
The financialization of the economy has really got to stop. Finance is necessary for a modern economy… But it is more like engine oil than fuel. Yet the answer to every economic hiccup my entire life has been to make investment more profitable, and I'm not young.
Sounds very american
Broseffine, the whole system is kaput. Give up. We're gonna go back down the path of 1870, and technology is not going to bail us out this time
Shouldn’t the railroad companies address moving the rail so as not to endanger residents.
The love of money is the root of all evil.
Make the fines associated with spills so expensive they HAVE to upgrade the rails.
☄️🌍💥
Lady you have a face for radio and a voice made for being quiet.
Not only is the risk of derailment greater with 18 trains running through your tow, so is the risk emergency services not being able to get through when needed. I've been stopped by a train and waited for it to end and another train coming from the other way begins 🚉
I was just talking about this like an hour ago. I’m sure most people have. Good video
Our entire government is complicit with the greedy, murderous corporations. Time for a massive overhaul.
Still costs these corporations less money to pay for a handful of disasters every year than it would be for them to just keep up safety standards. We can’t have these poor, disadvantaged CEO’s having to drive some jalopy like Bentley when they could have a Bugatti AND a yacht.
Instead of pointing fingers and arguing who's fault it is. Why don't we just hold people accountable. And actually penalize and punish those who are responsible for situations like East Palestine Ohio?
And a lot of it starts with people leading by example. Next time you're late to work or whatever the issue might be. Don't blame traffic don't blame the person that cut you off, take responsibility and own up to it!
Sadly there is nothing that can be done about American railroads, they will rot and decline and when they become unprofitable the venture capirtalists will withdraw, the system will collapse, taxpayers will have to bail them out and the American taxpayer will foot the bill, and we will wonder why we deregulated the railroads, allowed consolidation, sided with the money interests and are paying more for our goods when all we needed to do was nationalize the rail network, a lesson learned by most everyone else in the world, like China who have the newest and best rail network after the Japanese
Part of the problem would be they are moving more freight than ever before.
Hedge funds are stealing money from railroad companies risking life and disasters
Is there any responsibility on the part of home and business owners to choose not to live next to potentially deadly routes of transportation? Shit happens.
maybe it would be a better idea to transport dangerous chemicals on the highway and take everyone the highways and transport them by train instead
Wow, just a couple days after I watched this video a derailment happened in my town. (Ayer) While it wasn't serious, the train somehow fell off the track when the train wasn't moving. This is getting out of hand.
always nice to see love for the San Diego & Arizona Eastern!!!
"Deferred Maintenance"
This is pure bullshit. There is no increase in derailments just media lying to get the NPCs going.
"we can do it again"
who? how?
In summary–the fat cats are looting the industry.
ALOT OF THE RAILROADS ARE FALLING APART AND SOME OF IT IS OPEN SABOTAGE
There need to be laws that railroads have to pay penalties equal to 10 times the financial damage that any derailments cause to any communities.
Greedy unctays appear to be the problem. As well as the greedy unctays that are supposed to be overseeing their activities. Greedy unctays are everywhere – and until you throw these uckingfay greedy uckersfay, you will get more accidents. But they're rich and powerful, so nodody is going to do anything except run their mouths. Ohio is a bike to politicians.
This'll be another 'To-big-to-fail' fiasco; corporations will run this already dated infrastructure into the ground, profit-taking all the way. A bunch of old farts in Congress will give CEOs/CFOs a public tongue-lashing before they golden-parachute out and pay out massive bonuses. Then, Congress will appoint trustees to run these insolvent railroads, who will then subcontract management to the very same companies who were contracted to run then into the ground from the get-go. It's equally as laughable, as it is tragic; we love living in a sitcom.
Nationalize and electrify the system !
American railroads haven’t evolved in one hundred years- technically speaking. All over the world profits are partially re-invested in “the work tool” for safety and assuring future profits-not so in the US (except for AMAZON)- where locust’s are more important than the initial reason the company exist .
i would like to interject on something being repeated here… coming from a Marxist point of view, consolidation of companies shouldn't be seen as inherently bad, not so much as the real problem is the rail industry is Capitalistic in that it prioritizes profits over safety and workers rights. but if the rail industry was either nationalized and/or worker controlled, with no demands or control by shareholders, that should be the real focus here. worrying too much about trustbusting is a Liberal solution to a problem that is better solved with Socialist ideas.
Wall Street buying up infrastructure isn't just an infestation in rail, it's increasing everywhere. Our lives are more dependent on the whims of investors who don't care about you.
This Pollyanna, childish assessment of a very large, complex and dynamic industry is tripe. Yes, we need comprehensive regulation regarding train inspection and scheduling, but not regulatory strangulation by anti-corporate Marxists and a myriad of govt alphabet agencies. Take out the bias and emotion and do some serious reporting.
Whining about "wealthy shareholders" proves your economic illiteracy making this entire video suspect.
If 'safety' is compromised, then the FRA has to answer for that.
What is sad. They have the money to fix the rails that are ancient like them but greed takes over and so we have to suffer
And there's the problem the tracks The rails they're not paying enough or doing anything to inspect the rails that hold the weight of them trains go look at railroad tracks in the bedrock that is beneath it if that's not there and your living next to that I'd move out
And one more to preventive maintenance bearings fail without maintenance….
