Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction!! See you tomorrow for a re-edit of Puss In Boots 2 and hopefully a surprise movie if I can get it done in time!!
While 2000 wasn't as popular as the original, it still holds a special place in my heart.
I love the different art styles for every segment. And some of the music has really stuck with me.
Rhapsody in Blue: I love how this chaotic piece is brought to life with the bustling city of New York with varied characters, all who you get to know. I've also played a shorter jazz band arrangement of this piece, which always makes me think of this segment.
Shostakovich's Piano Concerto no. 2, for the Steadfast Tin Soldier. Admittedly they did change the original fairytale quite a bit, but it's a piece of music I love. My father is a bassoonist and I've heard him play this before, that opening march like tune is just perfect for the tin soldiers.
And the finale being the Firebird suite, a piece I've played a little of myself (trombonist fyi). The design of the spring sprite is just fantastic too. The way colour is used in this one too is just to live, die and be reborn for.
It's such a shame there's no sign of Disney making another Fantasia. It would've been perfect what with the 100 years of Disney. It would be a risk, an opportunity to dip their toes back into 2D animation, maybe throw in some classic characters.
But no, Disney are too focused on squeezing money from live action remakes to dare make a piece of art like the Fantasia films again.
I saw this in theaters and when they got to the last song, "The Firebird" I almost shouted out loud when I saw the destroyed mountain. It's Mt. St. Helens which is practically in our backyard! The animators came out here to Washington State for inspiration and reference. It's been my favorite ever since.
The WHALES/Pines of Rome, Rhapsody in Blue, The Soldier and Ballerina, Flamingos and Noah's ark are my favorite parts in Fantasia 2000 when i was kid watching on cinema of Paris ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Rhapsody in Blue and the Firebird Suite are my favorites in this.
But I think what a lot of people are missing about the Firebird Suite, is that the volcano (the firebird) may be destructive, but it is just as part of nature as the sprite (or whatever it's called).
And here's a little factlet: the lands around volcanos are very fertile, which is why farmers like to grow an cultivate land around them, but it comes with the danger of possibly getting you s**t rocked by said volcano.
Fantasia 2000 is my favourite Disney film
The original concept for Fantasia was to update it with new segments with classical music and to have one or two returning in each update but when the movie originally flopped due to the limited showing due to the fact that it was a roadside attraction, not all theatres could install the Fantasound (they only had one speaker at the time, it would taken decades before stereo would become a standard) and lack of interest. It wasn't until the 90s when Fantasia sold well on VHS that a new Fantasia would be feasable. This is the reason why the Sorcerer's Apprentice was reprised. Originally a couple of others were consindered such as The Dance of the Hours.
I thought you were aware of the story of Noah's Arc but maybe you aren't Christian. It's a story from The Bible in which God is fed up of all the sins of the World so he decides to make it rain for 40 days and nights to flood the World but before he does he instructs a man called Father Noah to build a giant boat called The Arc in order to spare his family (consisting of his wife, three sons and their wives) and the animals of the world, once it was built and two of each animals (male and female in order not making them go extinct) and once they got onboard, the flooding happens and the Arc floats on a never ending sea for 40 days and nights. When the rain has stopped, a dove comes flying with olive branch to signify that it has found land and the flood is sinking away. The Arc reaches land and the animals get out and along with Noah's family repopulate the Earth again. While not a practicing or believing Christian (slander me as much you want, I don't care), it has been my favorite story from The Bible ever since I was a kid, though it is unrealstic because it's scientifically impossible to make it rain so much that it would flood the entire planet. The Arc itself might have been real though as evidence of such ship have been found, that there might be grains of truth.
People in Alaska watching some big ah army of whales start flying to heaven: 👁👄👁
11:29 To me, it's never been about whether there's anything she's good at. She never asked to do any of this. She just wants to play and spend time with her parents. But instead she's being sent to all these classes to learn skills she's not good at and never wanted to learn.
28:27 Tell me you've never heard of Noah's Ark without telling me you've never heard of Noah's Ark 😂
If i recall correctly the "Firebird suite" animation is actually based off the Mt St helens eruption. I remember noticing the familiar chunk missing from the mountain at the end
Don't you read the Bible? That's where Noah's Ark is from. I love that sequence, though. 😅
Well, how did you like this one? I honestly wish Disney would do more movies like this, because there’s so much potential. My mom’s favorite piece from this movie is Rhapsody in Blue, because it’s one of her all time favorite pieces of music. Mine is the blockbuster fantasy of The Firebird Suite, which was definitely inspired by Mount Saint Helens (I’m convinced of that, anyway). Plus, the finale makes sense when you think about it: volcanic eruptions are devastating, but the soil becomes even more fertile, which is why the Spring Spirit was so much stronger in her power to grow new plants and trees.
And even though The Sorcerer’s Apprentice isn’t a new piece, it’s a definitive one, so it’s important for each generation to see it.
I love the firebird animation especially how accurate they got the elk
The Firebird is genuinely one of the most transcendentally powerful works in Disney history. Spring is such a beautiful and expressive character, and the titular creature is up there with Chernobog in terms of sheer power and menace. And frankly, I would throw myself into a volcano if it meant we could get Fantasia 2000 rep in Kingdom Hearts.
That 2nd to last sequence is the Bible's NOAH'S ARK
Fun fact, "The Firebird" segment was inspired by and based on the eruption of Mount St. Helens.
The first time I watched fantasia 2000, I was only three and I fell in love with it right away💗 My favourite was the Firebird.💗
I Recommend Watching The Film On DVD. Which thankfully Pam just purchased the DVD!
31:25 Firebird wasn’t in the previous one. Also I’m pretty sure that the spirit is either supposed to be Mother Nature or a Spirit of Spring. I usually depict her as Mother Nature. Also I love Firebird. It’s what got me into classical music.
