WATCH: Mass parachute jump for 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy

Parachutists jumped from World War II-era planes into now peaceful Normandy to kick off a week of ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Soldiers from across the United States, Britain, Canada and other Allied nations waded ashore through hails of fire on five beaches on June 6, 1944. French officials, grateful Normandy survivors and other admirers are saying β€œmerci” but also goodbye to the fast-dwindling number of D-Day veterans still alive. 1. My Father in law, nelson rice hit the beach one day after D Day, and told me his first job for one week was cutting down dead Paratroopers from trees and other things like church steples…He was with Patton from north Africa, all the way to germany and was wounded crosssing the Ramadan bridge, in the first plattoon into Germany, and recieved a bronze star with "V" device and the purple heart that day…He had been three years in combat by his 21st birthday!

  4. A time when the English stepped up to lead the resistance to save Europe and France, yet look at how the French treat us! Never paid Britain or America anything in compensation. Yes, it had to be done, but blimey, the French were so lucky we stepped in, otherwise they'd have been swept aside and lived under German rule thereafter.
They should always be reminded of that, yet look at how the arrogant and horrible French and treated us since, to the current day!
