I think a lot of judges make sly comments and have never experienced prison so they think it’s funny. Our prison systems don’t rehabilitate and we don’t know what he originally went in for before the DV charges. Our prison system turn non-violent offenders into just that. I think if you’re in a position like this, keep the sly comments to a minimum. Working in a courthouse at one point I’ve seen judges and lawyers laugh at offenders and have no remorse for sending them away for years on charges that didn’t warrant it. Growing up in poverty, I’ve seen the opposite side of the spectrum as well.
He is obviously violent and should be in prison, but that prison sentence, what goes on in there by allowance of authority at times, the comment she made and the smile on her face were the reasons behind this attack.

1st Issue is: reality is not as simple for everyone as it is for the tons of people behind their phones into their couch, simply judging the guy w/o further context.
2nd issue is: if the judge had been a jerk (as a lot are) or etc, I might stand for the “some people never learn if not through violence”. However, this is simply not the case. It was indeed a very poor decision and lack of control of emotions by the guy.
