  1. Honestly, what's fascinating is not even that she lives in a reality in which Rome wasn't real, but that she lives in a reality in which EVERYONE KNOWS Rome isn't real.

  2. I loved watching her tiktoks and I support her completely. I love her wacky ideas so much. Seeing the history nerds get unfathomably angry at her is still some of the fondest memories of that app that I have.

  3. Eastern Europe is my area of strictly relative expertise, so the Romanov stuff took me completely by surprise and I felt much the way Mia must have been feeling for a lot of this: you're kinda sorta adjacent to a good point but… not like this! NOT LIKE THIS!!!

I mean, I could talk for altogether too long about Slavs and whiteness, the othering of Russians and other groups, eastern Europe's quasi-colonial relationship to the wealthier west in the capitalist era, the nested orientalisms-all-the-way-down of a lot of historical discourse in the Russian Empire and to a degree the Soviet Union and the present as well, how the Petrine elite pulled the Urals as Europe-Asia boundary directly out of their collective butts… and then she comes along and says Nicholas II wasn't white??!? Okay, a) whether or not you mean it that way, that fits bang into some really ugly historical tropes ("scratch a Russian and find a Tatar! Lenin was a Kalmyk Jew and that's why he did bad stuff!") and b) like, you do know the shit Nicholas II said about Asian people, right? If he was one of them, he was seriously committed to his cover story.

  4. it's when she gets into her Russia bullshit that I pause and wonder how much of that is one woman's deeply held but wrong beliefs and how much is part of a more intentional disinformation campaign tbh.

  5. I seriously don’t mind people doing this sort of thing, it compels us to examine things again, to go a’ digging, to talk and read and get curious; to remember WHY we study history in the first place, which is all great armor against institutional whitewashing, which we know has happened particularly badly in Western academia. Way too much of what we accept as truth is simply narrative. Coming at these narratives from a new angle help tease out the whole point, to re-contextualize. To re-member. (Lol that’s my pun on statues missing their bits) 😉

  6. Dare you criticize the C L A S S I S P R I M A R O M A N A?
Thanks! That's nice of you all to do.
    Do check out the unexpected modernity already present in everyday life over B Y Z A N T I U M
And the entire field of Agnotology to check out just how ignorance keeps spreading faster than the truth…

  7. Okay previous videos I've seen on this weirdo made it sound like she was basically doing appropriate skepticism but taking it way too far, but seeing this much of her unedited reveals how much of it is pure conspiracy theory. There is no evidence you could possibly present to her that she would not dismiss as being faked by the church.
