Walk softly, and carry a big gun.
Dawn of War released back in 2004, that’s 20 years ago, and yet it is still sen as one of the best warhammer games, why? What did it do so well? Let’s replay the whole thing and find out.

Hold up. A 40K KART RACER????
I'll never forgive them for dropping the action RTS in favor of squad based tactics
Saw this game at my friend's house when i was a kid. The army painter alone was absolutely amazing. I loved seeing the space marine in his idle animation changing to whatever color you wanted, and the idea of your entire army being completely customizable. This game is an absolute gem. Still love playing it from time to time.
What do you mean "I can't get rid of my troops?". Just select them and press delete (or in the case of the mission: load them in an orbital relay and drop them on the other side)
I gotta admit, I was excited for this video but the hour-long go-through of a single campaign left me disappointed. I was hoping to see you touch on how the expansions changed the game mechanically, what they brought in. And please, at least lampshade some of the modding titans of the hobby whom keep the game alive, like Ultimate Apocalypse, Unification, or Firestorm Over Kaurava. It was a nostalgia trip for sure, but you didn't need a whole hour to do that. Let the newcomers enjoy the story themselves :v
The Sisters of Battle weren't balanced? I think the consensus was that the Eldar were totally out of whack to the point where some thought they were the dev's preferred race. Personally, I think they wanted the ability heavy Eldar to be fun for mid tier players, but the skill ceiling was ungodly high for them
Ty for this Josh. Dawn of War is such a good game. Can only hope they revive it some day with lessons learnt from the series. 40K is such a rich universe to make games with, it's understandable why they have a scatter approach with creating so many, as the characters and world-building is already done. I enjoy Tacticus which I don't think is pay to win, and Gladius is an excellent turn based game. If it had a bigger budget, I think it could reach higher on the list.
Thanks for all your content. 40K and MMOs is a great mix.
Dickmarines are perfectly lore accurate, there are Pleasureworlds and there is Slaanesh. the discrimination here is sick.
im joking of course, but its current Year so i thought i make sure to let everyone know
warhammer gladius is good strategy game also, only you need to buy most of factions hehe
This game was my introduction to 40k. I love these games!!!! Would love to see " Was it Good? – MechWarrior 4: Mercenary ".
"Was i a good W40k game ?"
"No…I was told you were the best"
I'll have you an hour and 20 mins of watching. Yeah it's good.
Haha talking about the voices. Ill never forget the chaos marine. "DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO!?"
You should check out 40k chaos gate from the 90s
For a long time there weren't any other contenders for best 40K game
1:17, mate mechanicus is a port from PC why do you consider it a “ heavily monetized mobile game” it’s straight up cheaper then the pc version and comes with the dlc.
The relic guys were some of the biggest fans of 40k they asked permission to create the blood ravens successor chapter!
"Unknown Indie Hit DBZ"
OOf, this DoW trailer is still giving me goosebumps, even after all those years.
iirc you can actually upload your own banners that downloads to others in the lobby
This got me through an 80 minute cycling session earlier today. Thanks!
Is he holding the mic in a coffee mug?😅
The Emperor protects.
Yes
I like dawn of war 2 way more than dawn of war 1.
The codex astartes aprove of this action
great. simce watchimg this i got like… 9 warhammer 40k tacticus ads on yt. i dont even like warhammer. thanks josh you really outdone youself this time
It's STILL good
Only part I hate about the original DoW was how zoomed in the damn camera was but to be fair at that time I was also worrying about what sandwich mother has put in my lunch box today.
No all Warhammer 40k products are shit.. plastic action figures come on we are not 10 years old. thats one step up from DOLLS!! the computer games are so fucking boring, im shocked they managed to finished making it with out getting bored biggest pile of dog shit since Microchips were made
Dawn of war tutorial starts. Gets sudden invasive 'If the emperor had a text to speech device' flashbacks;~; Goodbye but not Farewell kitten.I loved the dawn of war dark crusade campaign. Having a planet as the battlefield with every faction battling was so cool. Not to mention you both got to protect and invade different areas on the map. And when you protected an area you would get the infrastructure you built up in the invasion stage as your starting set up. It made the campaign such a great time.
Damn I miss playing that game.
I played a lot of Dawn of War throughout my life especially because I love that so much and it was so great.
it to me was my first interaction with Warhammer without even knowing it, I first thought it was a space game version of warcraft 3 and I owned both Warcraft 3 and it's expansion and Dawn of War and it's expansions on DVD and still owned them, sadly some of them don't work anymore.
but when I finally got a Steam account around 3 years ago I immediately bought Dawn of War and started playing it again and it's still amazing to this day and in my opinion its greatest Warhammer 40k game ever!
not the greatest Warhammer game in general because I think vermontide 2 takes that crowd
This was my first favourite series on PC when I was a kid. And without a doubt, I fell in love with Dark Crusade. Dark Crusade just resonated with me as a kid, and even now. I love the campaign system. Love it & will always love it. Great memories of playing with my brother by hooking up an ethernet cable between 2 laptops, as we didn't have Internet. Good times.
