hub city, go collect 3 things,
hub city, go collect 1 thing.

Neverwinter Nights is one of the most important D&D creation kits in history, with a rather lack lustre main campaign attached to it.

  1. Was it any good..

My father spent 10 years making an entire World in the Neverwinter editor. 20+ major cities with fully fleshed out interiors for 90% of all buildings, 30-50+ towns and villages in every major zone, 7 main continents, 350+ quests, grand theft auto adult content from bank heists to actual s*x work that could save your life if you were ever homeless and poor, entire mini-games from working as a thief and hiding parcels in the right dead-drops, to fishing off of boats in the ocean looking for monsters or ancient hidden relics in the waves.

Makes me want to reinstall and remake the damn thing.

  2. This one was a blast! I wish I had the patience to play the game for longer than the first act and without looking for a guide to complete it 100% I bet the next one will be about Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, my favourite game made by Troika Games.

  3. I gotta say, as a veteran Baldur's Gate player who could solo/no death run that game, I HATE the style of Neverwinter Nights (2002). For the longest time I thought it would be a lovely continuation/spiritual successor to one of my favorite games, but when I finally tried it I was disgusted by the ugly 3d graphics which I found much worse than BG1's corny old sprites and admittedly very pretty backdrops/locations. Idk, I could never bring myself to play NWN. It was as big a letdown as the Icewind Dale series. None of those games sucked me in like BG 1 & 2.

  4. Also, on another note, would love to see a "was it good?" on dragon age origins. I have very fond memories of it, I still feel like it was one of the best rpg experiences I've had to dat. But time may have skewed my view. Would love to see if my recollections are still accurate

  5. As a barely-any-experience D&D player, I found the game far too difficult even in the first city. It was fun until I realized that you need precise preparations to deal with hordes of enemies stronger than you. Not quite my cup of tea. I like a bit more freedom of choice in my early game.

  6. The thing is, you can have a team of sorts though not full party. You have companions and can swap them out. You just didn't choose to use them. Otherwise, great video, thanks! YES Please play the expansions. Looking forward to it!

  7. I played this game a ton up until mod6. It is actually pretty crazy that after all these years I still remember the patch number 'mod6' haha
edit: oh i was thinking of the other one

  8. As a long time fan on Neverwinter Nights I completely share they sentiment that Chapter 2 sucks. Charwood is the only place that memorable. Makes it sort of funny that the place stuck in time is also the only thing stuck in my memory about Chapter 2, despite numerous playthroughs

  9. One of my favorite games of all time, and what got me into programming with scripting for the toolkit. The main campaign is a slog, the expansions were excellent, and there's loads of community made campaigns that are fantastic

  10. I love it. One of my favorite games. I also love expansions. The game had a very interesting editor. Creating new modules didn't take much time, because almost everything was modular. Even the appearance of armors could be made of specific 3D elements and it was possible to choose colors and types of texture materials for it, all stats and write scripts for special unique effects. When I was 14 years old, I was able to make my own modules for this game. If a game of this type were created with modern graphics standards and such great editor available for customers, it would probably be a game for decades thanks to mods like Skyrim was. It's strange that few developers today are inspired by such classics. Great character development, interesting plot and characters, choices, locations and music. I remember that the multiplayer servers also had an amazing atmosphere and great people behind them. Those were the golden times for RPG and D&D fans.

  11. 13 minutes in and im deadass torn between watching the rest of the video or getting the game and playing the campaign myself first so he doesnt spoil it bc this genuinely looks like a perfectly respectable game even by todays standards

  12. Neverwinter NIghts is one of those games that are great but get truly brilliant when community gets it's hand on it and starts making their own content. I never could get into cRPGs or other RPGs using tabletop systems for one reason or another, but NN's custom modules introduced me into them by exploiting my love for roleplaying and just vibing in the world.
The combat in those games usually is either confusing for me or feels tedious at the beginning but those roleplay heavy modules just slowly indoctrinated me into liking it.

I love the door gaurd dude that was just like "yeah i mean you arent supposed to be here but if your strong enough to break the door down im not stupid enough or paid enough to try and stop you" very realistic bc ong if i was guarding a door and some big brolic mfer with a big ass hammer walked up and said he was going thru that door one way or another id get out of his way too 😂

  14. It is good and it clearly was back at release, without diamond or enhanced. Problem with reception if any comes from outside dungeons dragons community. Yes, it is a game. You buy it with a stories to hear (play), but overall this is a tool. A great one, along with second title.

  15. Actually Hammers get a higher crit multiplyer than Scimitars, making them effectively equal in DPR.
It's alot more satisfying to explodify a goblin with that sweet, sweet x3 damage tho. :p
Also, range weak? Mate, have you ever played a Ranger gish in this game? With all the Fireball Arrows the game is handing you like popcorn,
any Charachter with rapid shot and the ability to use a bow will make your Wizard go cry in a corner…
And no, the Sorcerors shtick is that he doesent get to swap his spells around but gets to cast them MORE often, not less. Brah, thsts like D&D 101.

  16. I just popped in, but I wanted to say that while Baldur's Gate was everyone's like Holy Grail, I never knew about that one. I first stumbled across this game at Costco with my parents. It took me ages to learn how to play it since it was my first real experience with this sort of system, but I was SO determined. Especially to be a druid. I wanted to be a druid so bad lmao. I was a little girl obsessed with animals and how cute they are, so being a druid was like… my whole everything LOL.

I'm much better at this game now, all these years later, but I was so obsessed with this. It brings back so much nostalgia. I never did beat the wailing death bit as a kid, so it wasn't until I was an adult that I learned to play the other modules.

I still want to learn how to make my own modules for this game, and then eventually- finally- pick up Neverwinter 2, and then learn that one. I have to change my headspace for it- I hinge toward JRPG style stories, which this very much is not, hahaha. Player choice matters a lot more, I think.

  17. Should be a tutorial for people who want to play DnD. Very good explanations as always. Instead of watching a movie, I just watch Josh. Better commentary, great voice, script and always cool games to revisit.

  18. GOG should ask some modders if they'd like to package some graphics updates for their version. On steam I've made a collection of mods including beamdogs graphics update that got finished off by the community, so new players can 1 click install a more modern experience
