#####

The Ray of Hope shall lead the Champion of Light to the Nagi Temple, and the Divine Beasts will break down the Great barriers and bring about the time of Convergence…

Ok so the plot is a mess, but the gameplay is solid.

Jade Cocoon was a late 90’s creature capture game riding the success of pokemon and digimon, but with a unique merge mechanic, with virtually unlimited creature appearances.

But, was it any good?

Thanks to the Patreon, Twitch and youtube supporters who keep this channel alive 🙂

  1. I tried so hard to like this game. The animation was fantastic, great voice acting, the game play was meh, and the story might as well have been an empty room inhabited by a clown eating a sandwich that is the physical representation of the innocence of childhood. The clown is just a clown. He dosent represent anything.

  2. I like it, i never got into part 2. But i played the sh*t out of part 1. The monsters attacking the humans hust made more sense too me. Because your literally attacking it until it's almost ko… it's going to fight back.

  3. The story wasn't that hard to follow. Some human had relations with a monster. Babies was made because of it. This was a prophecy of the end of the world. But it was a two step prophecy. It could also mean; a new age of peace. It depended on the kids of the human & monster. But the chosen two kept dying before they could do the event. They got reincarnated over & over until this game take place. Which is the final reincarnation. Because they finally do it. The game used fantasy religious mystic talk.

  4. This is one my favorite childhood game, i spent hours no end on this. I remember early in the game before the endless corridor there was some secret merging that created a completely new one which was a exciting discovery.

I also was lucky to have a copy of the second game and considering it great and bit different than its first part, but does not have that creature merging part which was a bummer, but worth to to try if got the chance.

  5. I never played more than the demo… the demo was fun, but unfortunately, my area had no stores that carried a copy for sale. My local blockbuster had a few for rent but since I didn't have a Playstation and only played it when I was staying over at my friend's house I guess i just never thought to rent it lol.

I did get the ps2 and even ran across a Jade Cocoon 2 copy in a pawn shop, but I was worried it wasn't an anthology, but after hearing this review, I think I could have bought it.

I wouldn't mind a new game using the merge system like Jade Cocoon as I felt it was incredibly fun experimenting with.

  6. This is one of my favorite games, it was so good for the time, bit slow paced today, but the system is still awesome, story was cool and was the first game I played with voice acting. I still have my copy

  7. I know you are looking at the older games from the old demos etc. And RPGs are generally a bit long but I'd be interested to see what you and others think about "The White Knight Chronicles" and squares "The Last Remnant"

  8. I feel bad for your arranged marriage wife Mahbu.
She suffers from an arranged marriage with a guy she likes, but he is off adventuring and never at home with her.
And anytime he has returned home, he is basically only there for a brief time, causes her immense pain through using her abilities, and then takes off again.

  9. Some good news (a little too late to be useful, aheh) – you can skip most of the Merging/Spinning etc cutscenes, and shorten the summoning & capturing cutscenes, in Options 😄

(The tank controls can also be avoided on the PS1 itself by using the analog sticks. No clue if that's an option on the emulator, though.)

  10. Just watched your video about god of war posted 7 motnhs ago. I think you should do all the other god of war games as well at some point. Also think you'd quite like this not very well know game by creative assembly called Spartan: Total Warrior, it's so nostalgic to me and gives me god of war vibes.

  11. I was so hyped as a kid when I was able to merge two triple headed flying dragon thingies, with the skeletal skin, and train them to be as strong as the enemy before the end of the game that looked like that… Srikatta

  12. Rented this game and racked up kooky late charges just playing it with my friend. Years later, that video store sold out to a bigger name in the biz after streaming and digital games swept in, so I check their used games to find a PSX section with the same copy of Jade Cocoon we'd rent during our childhood. I bought it for $6 CAD. Absolute gem, but I can't really stand long battle intro animations by this age – they need to be forgotten. Cheers.

  13. sounds to me like you haven't explored your options menu. certain animations are skippable. Capture included. I beat this game so many times in my younger years and it has left a permanent mark on my psyche.

  14. You really do your Patreons a disservice. I watch your videos on my 54 inch TV in my master bedroom usually and I'm not able to read a single name. It's pointless, and really should be considered a fraudulent reward. Try putting thier names in a scrolling text format (not too fast of a scroll rate) at the end or some other point of the video.

I am not a Patreon supporter of your channel and probably never will be, but this really gets under my skin and that sucks because I really like your content. So I'm going to copy this to my clipboard and paste it to every video of yours I watch until you give your supporters the credit that they deserve. I'm sure most of your supporters will support you either way, but I'm willing to best most of them have thought about why the text is so small when it could be easily changed. I may also just quit watching altogether soon anyway because this bothers me so much. Have a nice day.
