Was Cleopatra just a pretty face or was she so much more?
Cleopatra has often been portrayed as nothing more than a femme fatale.
This is in part true but she was in fact so much more.
Here are some things you may not know about her.
She became ruler of Egypt at the age of 18.
She was a polyglot meaning that she could speak more than five languages. It is believed now that she was fluent in up to 12.
She was very well educated in subjects such as mathematics, philosophy, oratory and astronomy.
She is suspected of having an involvement in the deaths of her three siblings as she saw them as rivals to the throne.
She was the last active pharaoh of Egypt.
Egypt became prosperous under her rule as she struck up trade deals with Arabia and countries as far away as India thus making Egypt an economic power.
Lastly It’s theorised that she did not die by snake bite but that she ingested a fatal mix of hemlock, wolfsbane and opium.
