Trying out 30pt Recon games for Warmachine for the first time & we enjoyed it. The smaller model count really makes you have to …

Donna: Protectorate was my first ever faction in Warmachine 2 years ago. I love my beasts in Circle, but I feel so at home playing Protectorate. I like to keep the Mechanik close to my jacks early on so he's nearby when they need to get fixed later on, but it does cost me sometimes. That's a risk I'm willing to take. I didn't really appreciate how many AOE weapons Orgoth had. My Exemplar Bastions have been big time heroes for me in the past and they did a lot of work this game. I want to get my Cinerators to the table soon, but part of me doens't want to swap the Bastions out for them. I might drop a couple solos in our next 50 pt game so that I can play both units.

Jason: It would make sense to play Orgoth aggressively given how they play out in the lore, but I never really pulled the trigger in this game. I tried to play more like I do with my Cryx of holding keep positions to score while sending 1 or 2 models forward to stall her out. This didn't work out well the strengths & weakenesses of my Orgoth (which I'm still learning how to play with just a few games under my belt with them). Also, in a 30pt game, I think that I really needed to be aggressive and get in her face because losing a key model early (like the Jackal) left too many lanes open for her to get some heavy hitters barreling down on me.

    Editing Notes:

1 – I tried a lot of new things in this edit. Some people have griped in the past that we don't show attack rolls in our videos. The main reasons for that were that making dice animations took a LOT of time & the fact that unlike in a game like Warcaster where the exact number rolled in an attack matters, in Warmachine attack rolls are mostly a matter of "did it hit or not?" (outside of if it was a crit).

I didn't want to bog down our videos with a ton of rolls since the focus of our batreps is the narrative aspect. I tried to keep all the attack rolls to short durations and hope they don't hurt the flow of the video. I've also designed several custom Mogrts that allow me to animate dice rolls much faster than in the past.

2 – Also…AGH!!! I didn't realize that I left out the "Orgoth…Turn 3" audio in that section until after the video was uploaded and someone had commented. I was in the process

of fixing it to reupload, but after seeing the comment, I didn't want to delete the original video. So, that mistake will live on in the final version.

3 – There had been a complaint in a previous video about the fact that we name the models made it hard for someone to follow which model was doing what. So, I tried to add more text onscreen to show which model was attacking with which weapon (if more than one like a warjack), which model was being attacked, etc. Hopefully, that helped to make it easier to follow along.

Our batreps are first & foremost for our own narrative enjoyment. So, we will NOT be dropping the naming of our models. That's a lot of fun for us to dig into the lore and try to find names that fit.

  2. Awsome, as always!

The only thing I would change is the choice of scenario elements. It feels the scanario was very unfair and heavily skewed in favour of the Orgoth with two scoring elements close to their side of the table and Protactorate having none – the closest single element was close to the centre. I don't say scenario elements should be perfectly symmetrical, but definitely this setup felt unfair.

  3. I stopped playing warma/hordes at mark 2. kind of interesting to see what changed and stayed the same in several editions. Plus the what i believe is a completely new army (to me) in the orgoths. Menoth was the army i played

  4. Great Narrative and batrep. Love these very narrative battles great Lore based battles and having all models named gives alot more finality to their battles and more connections to the unit/warjacks now characters in this battle. Also love your special affects please keep these up if you are able.
