Now I know its not the typical video I cover but I stand by it, the boney infection is actually pretty interesting! As a disease takes hold in the population, the lame side is cured by “love” but thats not what we are here for, What we are actually here for, is to figure out what happens if you get infected and decide to live in your parents basement away from society. Thats the good stuff.

  1. This movie puts in mind a zombie novel I once read called 'The Words of Their Roaring'.

The zombie infection in that book works something like this. An infected initially has a siezure, dies, revives, and starts eating people. And they stay that way for a long, long, looooong, time. But if an infected is around long enough, the infection stabilizes within them, and their brain begins to slowly fully reactivate.

The novel is about how this happens years after infection, and once the process completes a zombie is once again fully human in intelligence and thought, but the survivors who have lived in terror of the zombies for years ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS and pop zombies on reflex. So the first few zombies to complete this process are struggling to try and communicate to the uninfected that things are changing, and there soon won't be a reason to fear their kind anymore. That soon, the danger will pass and the world can rebuild, human and zombie together.

It's a really cool novel, I really suggest it.

  2. In the book the zombies have a organized society and they pair "couples" to take care of zumbie kids, because the kids don't know how to hunt humans. In the car scene they're with R's kids (he has 2), so it's why she doesn't try to run off

  3. Honestly the fact this movie was blatant "power of love" stuff was kinda refreshing. No pseudoscience bullshit for the most part or writers coping to make it work. "Fuck it, power of love baby!"

  4. 12:49 I ended up buying this movie and after watching it over ten times I realized the whole R and Julie thing while watching this scene and my brain just exploded. When I call my then Fiance about it and was just "WOW, I just realized this!" she was just "Yeah, duh, you didn't get that the first time we watched it?" I felt really deflated after that… but I relieved the high through you just now! Thanks Roanoke! I wasn't the only one who didn't realize right away!

  5. As far as zombie movies go, this one was… not unenjoyable. Not good enough or bad enough for me to remember. Enjoyed the analysis though, great work as always. You should still watch the Beach House.

  6. These zombies remind me of the Undead from Dark Souls. Undead in Dark Souls behave like average humans so long as they keep faith, or they risk giving in to despair and going Hollow (much like the Boneys). Hollows are just insane, they know how to use weapons and will emulate what they did before going Hollow.

  7. In the book, her dad became infected and almost immediately went full boney, I'm assuming to signify that he'd already given up any hope for the future…

Or he's getting the jump on a brand new buffett line

  8. I have a alternate hypothesis. Most of the infected begin their path to Healing after witnessing acts of love or kindness perhaps maybe the release of oxytocin allows the nervous system to release certain chemicals that Purge the infected Inhibitors on the nervous system. So in that way maybe the protagonist started his inadvertent treatment by eating a person's brain when they are in love giving him the initial jolt of oxytocin.

  9. I'm no biology expert and I'm not well studied in the field, but the connection of music and humanity is a lot more interesting than you may think. Supposedly memories that stick REALLY well with Alzheimer's patients is music where severe late stage patients may tap their foot or express joy or interest in favorite songs they listened to in their life despite losing so many other memories. I'm not a fan of "love cures all" that the movie pushes but I do like to think the infected dude collecting and listening to records may have helped him with keeping his humanity, could've been a cool concept.

  11. While in Biology Processes and Interactions class, knowing all of the key terms, understanding core concepts, etc., these videos are even more fascinating, as I can follow along with the logic and make my own theories without coming to a misunderstanding that is later clarified by you. Truly incredible how deep this stuff goes.

  12. It is interesting that a dumb idea like “zombie love story” actually brings something to the table

Like yeah the idea is bonkers but the idea does raise a few interesting questions, like this video shows

  13. Another really good zombie movie that also has some questions about morality, is “The Cured” it’s an Irish film that’s pretty unknown from my knowledge. It’s got a really interesting presentation of the zombie virus that would be cool to hear you explain.
