Warhammer Online is an MMORPG by mythic entertainment that initially released in 2008 but was shut down in 2013, that’s not where the story ends though because since 2014 the game has had a very active private server known called Return Of Reckoning which even has its own active dev team that create and add new content to the game with weekly maintenance, bug fixes and all the stuff you’d expect from a live MMO.
I covered this game back in March 2020 and the servers got overrun with new players, since then the game’s quite a few new updates of which you can see the trailers for on their YouTube channel and the peak player population still seems pretty decent.
For those of you who’ve never played Warhammer Online this is a Realm Vs Realm, PVP focused MMO with two factions, Order and Destruction, there’s 6 different races in the game and every class is race locked with a total of 24 different classes, although half of them are mirrored with slight variation from the opposite factions version.
Warhammer Online also has PVE dungeons, a public quest system that still fairly unique to this day, city sieges, hidden lairs with bosses, a large open world and most famously, it’s massive realm vs realm battles that can support hundreds of players at a time.

What do you think about Warhammer Online? was this a classic RVR MMORPG that you had the chance to play? are you surprised this MMO is still active in 2022? what do you think of Warhammer Online Return Of Reckoning Gamesplay? let me know in the comments below!

  1. Very fun PvP in Warhammer Online. The problem is the battlegrounds are so numerous and some have slightly more complex rules than I think people are used to so a lot of folks don't really know what they are doing so just mindlessly chase after stuff without paying attention to objectives. I played the original and tried out RoR for a while and the biggest issues for me is that leveling is pretty fun but once you get to endgame balance and gear iniquity becomes a huge issue and the grind becomes a slog. The last straw for me that got me to leave was that if you play a tank all DPS will pretty much expect you to be their free guard totem and follow them around once you hit max level. Getting yelled at by multiple DPS for not guarding them when I was the only one going after objectives and they were never in range of me makes the game super unfun.

  2. The one reason i stick to Private server MMOs the fact theyre community driven and the devs work closely with the fans, the games actually feel like the golden age of MMOS we had in the past. No cash shop, no bullshit just pure MMORPG fun

  3. Sadly the utterly confusing UI discourages new players. Tried to bring a few friends to play but they all gave up even before reaching lvl 15. They spent the majority of their time trying to tweak/figure out UI instead of playing the darn game…

  4. I loved this game along with age of Conan they need more games like this idk why that's so hard to do for people, when I was an orc warrior I felt like a warrior and no one could do my class just me, it was a great feeling

  5. Ohhhh man did Mythic piss me off with this whole situation. The morons should have just made DAoC 2. Instead they jump ship and made Warhammer Online (Which was fun enough honestly) But it all fell apart the moment the servers couldnt handle any of the city invasions. I remember being on extremely active servers until a city invasion would finally happen. The lag would make it unplayable and that in turn would make tons of people on the server quit playing. They would offer free server transfers after that. But it always ended up being the same cycle. Move to new server…. City invasion happens… lag happens…. people quit…. free server transfer… rinse and repeat until the death of War Online. I did make an account on the fan run War Online a while back and leveled a Warrior Priest to endgame but its just not the same feeling as the official game. Lots of changes, new items, and weird new currencies. Didn't end up sticking around for long after that because it just isnt the same as the original. Even the pvp is super weird. The lower level world pvp zones are empty with people usually only going back and forth in a single contested zone in the endgame. Its just sad to see honestly.

  6. I liked the quests with my high elf starter. They got me gradually introduced .. to the world.. as you were a weak character to start with.. but it was all part of the war effort which was the context. It felt very evocative to me.

  7. Nice looking game..but the RTS mechanic ruins it for me..would had probably still been pushing out content if it had been more of a MMORPG..like Neverwinter or World of Warcraft..

  8. Nice too see some of the Classic Realm PVP MMO'S are still kicking. My generation grew up with these classic's. We have time to spare again and these older games dont require a 5k gaming rig for large scale PVP.

Im a Dark Age of Camelot fan myself. Also 3 Realm PVP and even larger scale RVR. Mythic was ahead of the game back in the day. Two classic PVP MMO'S was a true accomplishment.

  9. Just got back into this game. Loved it back when it released, unfortunately got overshadowed. Enjoying Squig Herder, a goblin inside giant battle Squig, farting and headbutting enemies to death, eating my pet squig as a little snack for health. Peak Warhammer.
