This is THE only honest review of this game out there
the plot writing for the early tyranid half is fine, you're just fighting Nids after all, but the thousand sons where a complete failure imo.
like you said the main villain isnt set up at all, isn't tied to the characters in any way, could have made it a personal grudge with the squad mate.
the Rubric marines and cultist soldiers are just pathetic to fight compared to the overwhelming onslaught of the nids up to that point. they have no other character to banter with, they dont talk shit like the ORKs did in 1.
they just stand around and let you EASILY kill hundreds of them.
you KNOW the mechanicus shits going to go wrong because IT ALWAYS DOES.
aside from the spectacle and set pieces the second half really falls short.
Sadly this is kinda a L take I really enjoyed the campaign the currency isn’t an issue and I have 3 buddy’s who had no idea what warhammer was get the game and are now deep diving into the lore only complaint is lack of maps and hertic customization
Well to be fair, warp corrupted dust inside space marine armor probably doesnt have much to say.
The story campaign did its job, it maybe lackluster but it introduced people that are new to the 40k universe, in which will eventually lead players to the Operations mode and get introduced to all the legions.
The "Get orders, drop to planet, extract, get orders again" is there to train the players on what the bulk of the game is offering, the Coop missions.
One of Saber Interactive's games is WWZ Aftermath, where you fight hordes of zombies. Back then, I kept thinking, what if Saber replaced Zombies with Tyranids instead, and then SM2 happened.
ngl, the calgar parts had me super hyped
the pvp is very bare bones. not even that. they dont even have team shuffle in between matches. the most basic of things are missing.
sadly i turned voice lines off because the announcers are so annoying
Bro the only issue I got is the damn server problems.
I mean they can just do what epic did with gears and just add additional campaign segments and as for the void lets be honest they can totally chalk that up to tzeench shit lol
a lot of this looks like it can just be later serviced with a patch.
The game feels like a mod for wwz. Not in a bad way because the game is badass, its just saber resused the concept of wwz. Even the currency for guns and perks being the same
How I know bricky played the campaign straight through without playing the strikes as a supplement. He complains about not having anything extra in the campaign. It's a solid opinion for sure, but the campaign was very different when you play the strikes alongside the main missions.
It's absolutely wild that Bricky would give the campaign of Space Marine 2 the same exact score of Alan Wake 🤣
Didn't they establish in the first game that Titus has both a strong connection AND resistance to warp fuckery? He always seemed to resonate with warp shit and it's was his INCREDIBLE resistance that allowed him to survive detonating that warp thingy in the first game. It makes sense why he would have a bit more resilience in the warp. His other companions? Not so much. But yeah. It could also be something to do with the Necron tech they find there. Maybe it served as a sorta foothold for those from the Materium or something?
This guy usually this shit at reviewing something?
This puts me into a interesting position: I can not yet play it, Can only do it in three weeks. So I basically am listening to a man critisizing the exact makeup, fluffyness and chocolate to cherry grade of a really appealing cake. Which makes sense, after all, good craftmansship needs fine criticism to grow.
But here I am, and all I want is TO JUST EAT THE DAMN CAKE!
I DONT CARE, I WANT TO BUGSTOMP!!!!
13:20 What do we mean by customisation? Getting loot and cosmetics? I've no care for that, keep it away from me. If we mean weapons, I feel we got a lot, and enough time to get full mileage out of each
Player: Do you guys have good writing?
Writers: No, we got aura.
The Co-op PVE missions actually provide context in what happened to the Tyranids, in one of the you are tasked with eliminating a Hive Tyrant. When those die the Hive mind loses cohesion with its ground forces and the nids turn feral (usually). And there is also one where you place a nova bomb deep into Tyranid controlled territory.
They lavished so much on the flavor they forgot the rest of the dish.
I need a Heresy edition of this game. Just put it directly in the middle of the Horus Heresy. Give us Horus Heresy battlefront
Side note, having played the game I can’t help but feel like we played a different game. Maybe it’s just that Bricky is getting burnt out on 40K (extremely positive this is the case, his attitude during the most recent months of Ad-Ric and his Space Marine streams is showing a fundamental exhaustion with the IP, constantly contradicting himself on how he want to enjoy the IP and just being antagonistic towards the super nerds in a way he never used to be. Don’t get me wrong, he still clearly loves the IP but he’s definitely showing signs of expecting things from it and the people surrounding it that just isn’t going to happen)
Personally I think there was an expectation for a 2010s themed game to be more like a (the best) freaking book in the Heresy series.
The game was unimaginably fun, and I think it was a fantastic place for people to start into the universe. It’s not a 6/10 to most people who are new, even if it’s not super interesting story wise for vets.
All this to say. I think Bricky was WAY too harsh on what was a game that wasn’t exclusively made for 40K fans like Rouge Trader was.
You can argue that it should have been, but then you’d lose most the players who jumped in for a fun game by bogging it down with lore that they wouldn’t even know where to start with. At least as is it can ease newbies on in.
Don’t take this as a condemnation, I just hope Bricky doesn’t actually burn himself out completely. He’s become a mainstay in the community and is genuinely a great voice for new people to get into the IP with, and more than anything I think he does genuinely want the best for 40K and its content.
I just don’t know what happened here.
warhammer jesus has spoken
I disagree with so many points in this video I genuinely wonder if we played the same game.
PC gamer review moment
Bricky? More like Bitchy 🤣
Eh for me personally I feel like I dont agree with most of the points in this video. Not to say the game is flawless, I still prefer Darktide's gameplay honestly, but I definitely think the game deserves way more credit than this. Still a fan of you ofcourse :0
Didn't Imurah welcome Titus and the gang into his domain?
I didn't know WarOwl had a Warhammer obsessed brother
While most people are answering why Calgar is in the game. Can we also talk about the implied big Bromance between Titus and Calgar?
Like not Alexis and Dantioch levels but it is crazy how much Calgar is ride or die for Titus.
He was angry at the Inquisiton for essentially kidnapping Titus and was ultradepressed when he couldn't get him back.
The moment he got Titus back, he immediately put him onto the next closest thing to a Captain because Acheran is currently 2nd Company Captain now. Then when Titus sent an astropathic message to him, Calgar decided to make a beeline and appear in person. Calgar is fucking ride or die for Titus and thats both hilarious and great.
You think Titan fall two has the greatest single player experience of all time I hold a completely different opinion far from that
The game itself is a throwback to a simpler time when games were just games !
As a guy who doesnt care about story in games this game is one of my faves lol
I have to say, I am surprised at how overall negative the tone of this review is. Not that I don't think you make good points and don't trust your opinion and analysis, but it's really unusual for you especially to spend most of the first half of the video to talk so overwhelmingly negatively.
Did the game disappoint you so much that it bled through into the script maybe?
I say the disconnect is what I like to call it woke fatigue. After all the crap with writers from entities like sweet baby not only missing the point of a setting like 40k but outright dismantling it. People are just glad of a very simple story with very simple story beats that gets the most basic point of such settings and what its appeal is.
Things have been done wrong for so long that its just a breath of fresh air that something genuinely tries to get it right. You want women? Bam you have grisled Cadian veteran girl bossing her company to do impossible deeds. And its feasible. Its natural. Its part if the setting with how she holds no importance on her own life or value. She is clearly the type to throw her life away if it means ultimate victory and her battle scars shows. She's been deep in the fighting like everyone else.
Thats how you portray equality. You take a gender and write how much it DOES NOT matter. That commander is simply a loyal imperial guard.
Everyone always has something to complain about.
My main disapointement is in the amount of chaos spacemarine you have to fight. Like really they're just not fun to go against IMO and I would have really prefered a sole focus on the nids
I know nothing of Warhammer, but this game is amazing. Immediately went to dive in for more lore. Have always seen Warhammer games but none of them were supposed to be that good, yet they got better and better every single game, slowly over the years, until finally here we are. The disconnect is cuz of games lately in general. With all the social messaging issues in games now, to games just coming out in horrible states like Gollum, Concord, Day Before, Redfall, Starfield, people are just starving for a normal, fun, game that’s not a total live service money machine. Even tho this isn’t the greatest game with the deepest lore and characters, this game was necessary for the mass public to just easily jump into Warhammer and shoot stuff. The game got over an 8/10 for ratings across the board, it was clearly ready for release lol, it’s one of the best games of the year so far. I hope this unleashes tons of deep Warhammer games now, I want an open world RPG full of lore
Imurah showed up like the green goblin in spiderman.
I felt the same way as soon as I couldn’t customize the heretic Astartes kinda sucks hope it changes eventually
Dark angles, white scars and salamanders would be amazing alternatives for a space marine game
Really like the campaign and the epic moments like Calgar coming in to the story
Well I’m never coming back here for a review lol
Personally felt the aesthetics of this game were great and everything else about it couldn’t be more mid. The combat especially is a loop of melee swings, parries, and execution animations that gets old very fast. Which is a shame cause it’s what you are doing 90 percent of the game.
