Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader – Ep. 103: Byte the Hand

Today, some people just keep biting the hand that feeds, and we’re all broken up over it.
We hate to accede to demands, but sometimes there’s just a distinct lack of leverage…

00:00 Accede to demands.
11:02 Byte the hand that feeds.
30:40 All broken up.
42:55 A distinct lack of leverage.

  1. So, Critical Tasks quest was working fine at launch, but it was broken before you reached it. In case it wont work properly for you retroactively, spoilers below:

Basically you run around the bridge fixing minor problems, like valves and such, and then you read some wierd logs, and it ends with "Strange, lets wait what'll happen". Those were supposed to be malfunctions and logs you asked Nomos about.

  2. (Imperium Lore: Succeeded) you recognize that the word "nomos" is Ancient Greek for "Law". It is also a word that the Greeks used for ancient Egyptian clans that made up the Egyptian society.

  3. Yeah, I'm not sure the romance writing is that strong in this game considering I'm not sure Retcon even intended to be this intimate in the first place.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Abelard was lying to us there. That or he was mind wiped and literally couldn't remember anything. Also would be interesting to know if Argenta has anything to say about it even if she wasn't quite a regular of the crew at the time.

  4. Ah AI in WH40K …

The Tau have it and doesnt try to kill then yet, oddly enough … it tries to kill humankind because its not that it hates humans but because when the AI sees Chaos it reaches a very simple conclusion, as the Warp is influenced by emotions and so lead to the Chaos Gods and all the Warp entities then if nothing is feeding the Warp it will stop existing, thus by ending Mankind it prevents Chaos from existing in the Warp, the Orks and the Tau likely would be fine (might explain why Tau AI havent tried to killed then), same with the Tyranids as I am not so sure about the Necrons as Humans and Eldar (both variants) happen to be the biggest problem as they keep feeding the Warp and so would be … disposed.

This can be complicated because there are autonomous Machine Spirits that explain Pasqual being conflicted, there is a variant of the Kastelan Robot that predates the Imperium and basically they just show up, allow Tech-Priests to give then commands and after the battle is over they leave, Land Raider machine spirits ara also known to some times just operate without human crew such as Rynn's Might that fought a Ork Warband and killed a Warboss before being destroyed.

So yes, this is a difficult situation because as Pasqual said, this can be a very cleaver Abominable Intelligence or a Autonomous Machine Spirit that the Cult Mechanicus do revere.

  5. I just knew where that 'recording' was going.

Years ago when I worked for a local council they had a story of a similar tone.

Two people liked to go to 'lunch' together. Turns out they were having an affair. One time they were busy, they hit the button for transmit all.

Pretty much the entire council admin staff, works, garbo's, everyone heard it.

Needless to say, they were looking for new lunch arrangements and new jobs.
