Mic too close to mouth…
Time to start a new file folder just for maps. Thanks for bringing it to realistic scenarios as always.
Outdoor maps should have hexes it is traditional in gaming circles.
Google " the world's wars" and what you will find is that humanity as a whole is always, always have been, and probably will always be at war, some time, somewhere. Basically, humanity has always been at war, somewhere in the world, every day, since time emmemorial
Im a pilot, as for the VFR charts, airliners will not use those and the pilots who do(VFR pilots) wont be following the Victor airways generally. they pretty much are allowed anywhere besides class A, B, C, D airspace. Airliners will mostly be within class A(18,000ft+ msl) which will be IFR charts. we pretty much never monitor a regions tower unless actually within that airspace or planning to enter(sometimes we will contact approach for VFR flight following) generally we monitor 121.5 for longer VFR flights, most aircraft have 2 radios each being able to have a main frequency and a standby frequency
Hey, great video! You mentioned your handheld GPS you download maps to, what GPS do you use? Thanks man!
Love you guys keep up the great work.
What is the map situation in Korea? Foreign companies not having access to up to date maps?
does this gps issue have effect in flying? eg warfare they use gps jamming so lot of hitech missiles dont work as well, as accuracy is based on gps but those have aux systems to help but still it makes things more difficult.
Why is it that ur videos constantly have a 3 day delay in showing up on my feed
You might have 20 years in the military…. Citizen warfare won't work like military warfare. Besides guerrilla warfare has beaten the us military in the past 4 wars we were in. Pretty sad when 60 year old men in sandles and dresses beat the "state of the art BEST military in the world" for 20 years. I think the military needs to learn how to be flexible and actually combat the force they are against. Not what their doctrine says. Be flexible.
"Lines on maps" has become an apparent inside joke among the zelenskyy butt sniffing NAFO simp corp.
Or the theory of expanding earth is right and they don’t want anyone to know.
Seems odd google is using some janky terramatics images when they barely have a website.
Splash Maps will print you maps on fabric so they wont wear out or get destroyed by weather.

"grab that tourist road map of this state, the wormhole closes in 5 minutes"
As a child I FUCKED UP many family atlas…..playing war games …..was I the only one
Also travel guides don't look as suspicious as a CIA Factbook…😊
18:11 since around 2014 near misses involving commercial flight has gone up.
Also around the same time diversity quotas were being enforced by ATC.
Having some kind of heads up display on a device like " Google Glass" years back would have been nice..where you are, destination.." points of interest" etc..well, like they say, can't rely on electronics alone..😂.
Found myself needing to go old school on a few occasions..but hoping that these devices with navigation apps do not get scrapped, and are still useful after being rendered obsoulete without updates..
Found myself in a city in which all the one way streets were not listed..device was out of commision, getting to the hotel was an adventure on it's own..😂..managed to sort out the device issues upon update via wifi and was able to make appointments, plus find the exit after buisness was concluded..first time ever being in that city, everything in oddball locations plus more merge lanes and overpasses than ever seen before. Paper map was 20 years old..so imagine the fun if you will..not to mention some city sinage line of sight covered by hedges and 90° corners by buildings and other sinage at intersections..
Tall buildings seen at a distance serve for visual land marks..too far north or south from approx destination..adjustment via side street or alley in direction travelled, pulling over to the side, re assess and wrote down turns needed to be taken on post it notes for fast referance..local radio station for updates..referance to map when road closures due to maintainence was present unexpectedly since one could not recieve such info living a few provinces away before internet was capable on a cellular phone..hard to write notes via spoken word while driving under pressure..makes for slower travel having to pull over and re configure travel plans.
Can imagine logistics in a battle space being much more of a pain for the average individual trying to survive..but then again, certian traits described by some seems much like what I and a few others were doing when younger navigating in a city for the time living there where certian neighbourhoods and questionable activites were known to happen at random..radios, phone calls, prior planning, short cuts..
Lots of work just to avoid being hassled at times doing errands, attempting to participate in recreational activites or just going to school..
May not know where, but when certian activites would happen, alternate routes..defensive measure if necessary…
Pre planned routes and friends houses to stay at..
Some logistical function where just finding good deals when shopping for groceries..😂..
Sale price and item lists, location of stores..hours of operation, estimated travel time by bicycle..load capacity, number of trips back and fourth necessary if more than weight carrying ability and no car to borrow or taxi money..traffic flow, time of day/night..season, proper clothing wear and tear on bicycle, matainence..etc.
Pending on ones location, daily life can be like a millitary operation..😂..
I practice with my red rider. Low on cash.
I do work with a guy who has memorized thousands of miles of terrain, however, he couldn't read until the age of 55
If you are worried about SHTF. Look for potential targets around where you are and along any escape routes you may take. All airfields, power plants, military bases, retreats for political leaders, dams and ports are targets. Intersections of major highways will be targets too. Particularly if near a major pass. Avoid these. Consider using power line rights of way for detours. Pipe lines are rarely shown on maps anymore.
17:00 That is some progressive atlas you got there. The "poor' gypsies are discriminated and there was a "ban" on gay people. Those are the most important things you must know about our country, FML.
I personally believe that U. S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education, like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should—our education over here in the U. S. should help the U. S., uh, or, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq, and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.
What a great video!
Bro, why now a lot of military movement in US. Am I missing something?
Map publishing companies also protect their product by including inaccuracies that more than likely won’t effect the average consumer. These inaccuracies function like a water mark.
Fascinating video. Well done, S2!
You have a great voice without umm.
To those on land, geography may not change that much but on water it does. Sand bars, spoil islands, and aids to navigation can and do change, more so in deltas, estuaries, and bays. They do have subscription services, and sometimes different services will show you different charts.
Don't forget aids to navigation often have some type of signaling device that distinguishes it from other aids to navigation in the same area. Light, horn, or bell that sounds or flashes at timed intervals. If you are near the coast it's conceivable that you could make use of that information and it's all on the nautical chart.
It doesn't really apply anymore, but in the old days the local phone books had good area maps, and they often had several, one for exchanges, zip codes, area codes etc. They often show shopping districts, police and fire stations, utilities, municipal buildings . . .
One should always be prepared to make maps. That means having extensive library of maps in digital, a computer printer, printing supplies. It helps when printer can do bigger format than A4.
Maybe it's not a concern in your AO. But flood maps or flood overlays can give you critical information about how terrain changes after heavy rain.
Sewer system was widely used during Warsaw uprising by insurgents and civilian. It's not generally expected to be used so it's a way of travel through non-permissive enviroment worth consideration.
Hi. I’m looking for your input to where I could get grid topo maps. My land nav is a little rusty id like to get back into it.
When the US was planning Operation Torch in 1943, the logistics capacity of the port of Casablanca was done using pre-war picture postcards. And the invasion of the southern coast of France had the allies using Michelin road maps.
3:58 I:50,000 was the general size map when I was in the NZ Army. We use to do a hell of alot of walking. Then we'd get taken somewhere else by Iroquois. So you needed that big map.
13:52 The Pocket Atlas looks handy. I think I need one of those. I use too many apps. But I do have a world 🌎 map close to me, ao I can see where places on the news are; Ukraine 🇺🇦 Niger 🇳🇪 ect.
Get a sextant and a watch and a nautical almanac
Stop! Johnny Harris can only come so much.
Yeah, I don't wanna be an analyst… I wanna be a psychoanalyst!
Very informative
Great work!
Your point at 15:19 is very true in my experience. Yes, we hear about so many locations on the news, but without having the context on where those locations actually are and the significance of the location, you might as well not know anything that is going on.
It was actually kind of eye opening to me playing Hearts of Iron 4 for the first time and learning a lot of map data from that. Seeing where Benghazi is for the first time to understand some more context as to why Hillary sold our embassy and troops out there is quite the experience even if it is a video game that is based in the second world war. I learned more about geography in this game much more than any school classroom sadly.
Allied troops were given Michelin road maps during operation overlord as a way to counter German troops switching up road signs during their retreat.
I love learning about maps
I'm in the National Guard and have a background in cartography, geography, and GIS. But I'm not a 12Y geospatial engineer (yet) as I didn't sign up as one. Didn't really know what I wanted when I joined to be honest. I'm hoping at the end of my contract here in the next year or so I can go back to AIT and switch my MOS to something I believe I can give the Guard. This video really invigorated me to realize how I can be an effective leader through my expertise in geography and cartography. Might have to find some new maps soon.
Sectional charts expire every 56 days, as it is the responsibility of an airman to have the most up-to-date information.
Sectional charts are useful for many things, but tracking aircraft is not one of those.
1) Victor airways are mostly used by low flying GA aircraft in IFR flight.
2) High altitude airways (jet airways) are not shown on these particular sectionals.
3) Most navigation nowadays is done through digital waypoints which only exist on an Excel sheet and on the GPS unit. I'm talking SIDs, STARs and enroute RNAV or RNP.
4) in some places there are free route options which give the aircrew choice over what waypoints they want to use
5) VFR flight is not bound to anything other than personal reference points.
What you get out of a sectional is the areas we are not allowed in, the patterns and the max. & min. altitudes in a particular area.
Single pilot flying is already a thing in smaller aircraft like some business jets and wildness turboprops (island hopping, alaska, africa so on)
I wouldn't read to much into it.
