Really cool! When I was working on a voxel engine project, I made a much simpler version. While building the chunk, I'd figure out which was the most common block in the chunk, and when you were far away, I'd simply display a simple cube where the chunk was, textured with the most common block. It didn't work perfectly, but it was fun to make.
