I like the idea of the doorbell with the camera. I'd be tempted to tell people you see near Doug the police have been called/will be called and you will press charges for cat theft. Do you still have access to the social media site where people were commenting on Doug and how they'd take him? Put a strongly worded comment on there. Those women obviously came looking for Doug because noone carries a cat carrier when out for a walk do they? I'm getting as stressed as you about it!
I hope the photo of Doug with the information you have written out stops all this very odd behavior from these people… And why don't they knock on your door and ask if its your cat or a stray…..xx
So this is random Paula, what about a harness, like Lillians? They do small lightweight cat ones that go around the body. on a long enough leash to get around the garden, sleep in the sun, just a suggestion, it might work 😊 A t least you would have no involvement from the neighbours, and he would be safe. Love Suze. 🥰🤗
Paula, I love that you put up those pictures of Doug and an explanation. I wish people would just mind their own business. Since when are cats not supposed to be outside?! My God! Thank goodness Johnny saw those women. Also, my cat just head butts me for treats….I wish he rang a bell like Iain…it’s so cute! ❤
I have an cat that goes out but in the early fall the coyotes go no a feeding frenzy, I have to keep him in even if he a Hates it. It is for his own good. Sit out with him and watch him but when your in he is in. Bring him in and give him a spoon of his food as a reward. He will start to associate in with yummies.
I was going to say to put his name and yours with telephone number to call, but you then said he won’t tolerate a collar. Is he micro chipped? It is quite normal to see cats outside unattended here. It is so odd that your neighbors are so concerned. I hope Doug sticks to his own yard so the neighborhood ladies can find something else to do! Good luck! I love your vlogs!
Our Local council has in place a 24 hour cat curfew which means they must be kept on your property either outside in a cat enclosure or inside. It is to protect native birds and animals. I can tell you it gets expensive removing a feral cat from the under body of the car. I do understand what you are going through and feel those so called ladies are doing harm more to you and your family as well as Doug.
I don't get it!! My cat sleeps outside all year round! He's quite well known in the area but no one has ever tried to feed him or take him! Most cats like to be outside, especially in the heat! Paula, my blood is boiling for you!
Hi what about putting a message on your local Facebook or spotted page if there is one I had a cat that did the same thing people need to understand a cat is a cat and they do what they want when they want 😊
You could write a book Paula on ‘The adventures of Doug and the cat nappers.’ Just keep your great sense of humour. Thank you also for your fund raising running. My sister has just finished nine months of chemotherapy treatment for multiple myeloma and my father has a leukaemia too. I hope you don’t mind but I will give a donation to our Australian Cancer Foundation, but give you a very big cheer.😊
Hi Paula, just wanted to say a big thank you for doing the September Vlogs, they really cheer me up. I loved the one with the biscuits. Each week on a Friday I bake ready for the family popping in at the weekend, and usually included a batch of biscuits, so this week I made the ginger nuts, they look and taste amazing. Also on your recommendation I have bought the Biscuit book from EBay, it’s just arrived so will be sitting down with my breakfast having a look through. Please show us your next week biscuit subscription, your friend is so lucky to have you bake for her. Take care, best wishes.
I live in the same town as you, and was reading a town group post on facebook about a woman who took a cat to the vets and how its always outside looking dehydrated, other people replied saying hes not homeless and hes fine the owners have posters out saying about him!! As i was reading i thought thats Doug!! Leave him alone, hes got the best fur mama and couldnt be more looked after or loved!!! Heres hoping for cooler weather soon 🤞x
Don’t some people realize that some cats are outdoor beings and will only go indoors when the weather gets colder? We have a cat that lives on our estate that stays outdoors for most of the year! Strange people round your way although perhaps they basically mean well! The posters should do the trick hopefully!
Hi Paula, I feel silly adding one more comment to so many, its wonderful you have so much empathy under the circumstances. My two cents if you want it, and I dont usually say this like this but this but I sincerely felt moved to….. All that kept going through my head as you were recounting your anguish, was 'Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.' Matt 5:9. I used to have it written in a great long poster along my kitchen wall for moments I was having like yours. My husband also used to say, dont do as they do Tara! I still have to listen to that advice today. Poor Paula, hang in there, youre being incredibly patient with all of this. The suggestions, of leaving him inside for now even if he doesnt like it, or outdoor cat runs, a harness rather than a collar, a black rubber or heated mat, all sounded interesting. I hope it all settles. Be strong, and Im not hear to give you a Bible lesson, it just sounds at times like you have a protestant background and like I said, I was really moved to say so…. so if you are a Christian, pray to Jesus, he hears and answers all sincere prayers. Anyway, you'll probably think Im a nut, but no matter, they said that about Jesus too. See you tomorrow.
Hi, please don’t let these people get you down, Cats are naturally nomadic creatures and I don’t understand some people when they don’t get that. Our local fb page is full of similar stories where people take cats and assume they are strays but they are actually well loved family pets. Take care I love to follow your adventures ❤
I'm so sorry to hear your troubles with your neighbours, some people clearly can't mind their own business, those women should have been apologising. Doug can come and go as he pleases and chooses outside. I think cats kept inside and never allowed out are the ones who need new homes where they get more freedom. Sending hugs
My view on cats running around the neighborhood are leave them alone. Even if they are stray/feral they know how to handle themselves and get food as long as they are not de-clawed. God bless ya and hang in there. People are busy-bodies and need to leave the poor old guy alone. <3
I don't understand it either, unless a cat is obviously injured or seriously underweight and asking for help why would you assume it's homeless? My neighbour opposite has a cat that climbs out of the front bedroom window at night and lays on the windowsill, my heart is in my mouth watching it but I wouldn't dream of interfering.
You should make more of those flyers and ask the post person to deliver them to all the neighbours with the note on the back of the image saying that the next person who takes him away from the property will be contacted by the police for cat-napping and trespassing!! You know all the people who've taken him to the vets already so you know who to send the police to! Plenty of people have outdoor cats, why are they making such a deal over him when they haven't before!?
