Victorian Era Bad 'Jobs' – Stone Breaking!!! #history #victorianera

Glanmore Presents Victorian Era Bad ‘Jobs’ – Stone Breaking!!! A task often reserved for inmates in prisons or workhouses. Stones would be broken up with hammers, rods or picks. The resulting pieces were shoveled through mesh to ensure a relatively uniform size. This gravel would be used in road work. In a workhouse, a full day of stone breaking would get you a meal and a place to sleep. This hard labour was used to punish criminals and unfortunate people for being poor. A very laborious task, and a last resort! #badjob #museum #museumtok #victorian #victoriantiktok #history #historytok #victorianera #victorianaesthetic #victorianfashion #victorianhouse #quinteareamuseums #quinte #bellevilleontario #discoverbelleville #southeasternontario #glanmore
