I had a beagle that would run if she got off the leash, she wasn't about approaching other dogs, but she LOVED getting love from strangers and at 16y/o (she was 18y/o when she passed) she was still SO FAST, it was a workout lol

I came very close to using pepper spray on a loose dog that charged me and mine. Had it been a pitbull and not an obese lab it would have been my 9mm not the hot sauce. If you have a dog that will charge and chase people keep that dog under your control. Your dog's safety is your responsibility. I will not hesitate to spray or shoot an incoming aggressive dog. A dog can inflict catastrophic, life altering or lethal damage within seconds. Your loose dog isn't getting that opportunity on me or mine. Keep your dog under your control.
I do take my dog running off lead on trails with people and bikes. A simple call out of “over!” And she’s to the left or right to pass. Now she’s starting to run past people without even a command. She’s just one dog but it can be done surely.
If you don't have full control of your dog, you should never let it off lead. It's that simple!
This is why I hate dogs. I gave up jogging because I was afraid I would be attacked. I even time my walks around when I know there will be fewer dogs out. I wish every dog owner was like Victoria, or at least half a good.
Can't remember how many times I've yelled at people like her to stop letting their dogs run wild 😠 🤬😤 We have a very dog-agressive Akita and she has seriously injured other dogs allowed to walk up to her off-leash.

I know people who let their dog off the lead & are thoroughly confused when it runs off. Every time. It's almost like they think it'll just naturally stay with them or return when called with zero training. Maybe a dog with a certain personality might do that, but I feel like that would be a rare thing
Why let your dog off lead if you know it doesn't come back when you call it?
In the puppy class I took we always ended recall with a collar grab, sometimes followed by clipping on the lead, just so the dog would get used to it.

I don't own a split lead. Each of my dogs have their own lead. But every time I walk them, I end up with a split lead anyway.
In my area, a person wouldn't hesitate to shoot a dog if they feel that they're under attack. If your dog has poor recall, keep them on a leash.
This is great one on one, but will the listen in distractions? I train all my dogs in distractions and use a 30' training lead.
