Minor correction, the Onge don't live on the island this story took place and are one of the few people in the region that were not aggressive to outsiders at the time. The people that were encountered were the North Sentinelese, a name given to a tribe that we still don't even know the name of due to less than a handful of successful contacts that didn't end in bloodshed.
Lets also remember the Islanders that those 17 men killed while "running low on ammunition". The normal loadout was a satchel carrying 60 rounds so over a thousand rounds, 500 casualties among the defenders of the island from perfidious Albion might not be impossible.

I love how this is turned into a hero story fighting a tribe bothering nobody. Those fine Islanders fight for their Island because they don't forget the first group of outsiders that came 4 years earlier and the English and Spanish brought them the plague and other diseases that cut their community by 80%. So yes they have a right to protect their loved ones from travelers. Nice how they leave that out and the fact the first visit the Natives were first met by English soldiers spiking 25 of their tribe upon meeting them. These folk just wanted to live without threat, murder, slavery and sickness that brought vast death. Sorry those soldiers are not heroes. They were murderers purposeful and disease death. The heroes here are the tribe who did not want their people decimated by selfish foreign people who were not invited. This video disgusts me.
