Multiple rounds of intense rainstorms dumped two months of rain in just two days in Vermont and other parts of the northeast. Officials warn a dam upstream from the capital city of Vermont, Montpelier, could overflow for the first time — adding to the existing flood damage. I feel for these people. These type of massive damage events are quickly growing more frequent and more severe as abrupt exponential climate change unravels much sooner and with much more severity than scientists predicted. Multiple tipping points have been breached. Humanity is now threatened with near term extinction as our politicians continue to do nothing.

The dam footage shown in this report is not the Wrightsville Dam, upriver from Montpelier, on the Winooski River – it is a weir on the Ottaquechee River (Mill Pond Falls), next to Simon Pearce in the town of Quechee, 60 miles south of the Wrightsville Reservoir.

Anything prior to our Internet of 1993 was not recorded so how does anyone know? Weather mentions records and I say NOT Accurate and have noticed this many times that our records are not. When one stands in snow as high as 6 feet ( around 1968) yet our records say: The most snow down fall was recorded in 2010 at 4 feet then one will know.

Meg, you do a disservice by soft pedaling the condition of the dam. It is an earthen dam. It is the nature of earthen dams that when they are overtopped they WILL fail and collapse. Meaning that the entire contents of the reservoir will be discharged into the river and your capital city in a very short span of time. Telling residents who live near the river to evacuate will not do. every living person in Montpelier needs to leave and find high ground many miles away until the water level in the reservoir begins to recede.
