More than 1,100 jobs at Vauxhall’s van-making factory are at risk as its parent company Stellantis announces it will close its Luton plant in April 2025.
The company says it would offer “relocation support” and “an attractive package” to sacked employees who want to transfer to groups site in Ellesmere Port in the North West of England.

Closure of vehicle making plants in the UK was inevitable, but the governments – both Labour and Tory, were too dimwitted to see it coming. Unless manufacturers are permitted to produce the vehicles that people want and can afford to buy, there will be no more car and van making factories left in the UK within the next 10 years.
What about Holden?😢
Why aren’t they just shutting down Vauxhall and also sell them as Opels like everywhere else?
How could they not see this would happen? Forcing businesses to make a product the consumer doesn't want and fining them for not meeting targets. This is typical of government interference in the markets orchestrated by people who haven't a clue how it even works. They'll destroy thousands of jobs in the mad dash for net zero. We no longer even produce steel which is vital for our national security. The Muppets running this country need to go.
Stellantis are moving ice production to France…excellent move because the British government can't fine them £15000 per van because they dont make any in the UK… in the news papers today Stellantis also say that importing a van into europe also costs because of Brexit…. not looking good, Jaguar, Nissan, all kicking off
Glad Britain is celebrating their much lauded ‘green’ policies. Brexit and ‘climate change?’ It was obvious from the beginning that it was all heading towards disaster. Unfortunately, the world now openly laughs at the tiny island. Any respect has dissipated. Enjoy sovereignty this Christmas.
Who the hell wants electric our infrastructure is not up tp par for it.
The Great Recession was nothing compared with next few years
As much as the majority of the comments are hating on evs and the UK government, this is what stellantis do, buy brands and shut factories!!! 300000 employees in 2021, 258000 by 2023. They spread stories about EV's to get the public to pressure the government, wake up public!
Why can they not save this place and all those jobs.. Surely, make something else… ?
Bad news always delivered before Christmas. Brexit benefit, isn’t it?
So it was the Tories going for net – zero. Well done. But in any event – exporting from the UK being expensive post Brexit will have players a role in the decision
People without transferable skills they are screwed!
Brexit
What is a ev going to be worth in 10years for the private buyer when trading in ….. 😂
Nothing else to blame but the policy
Or switch the plant back to diesel? 🤯
Labour the government for the working class 😂🎉 Chinese will buy the factory buy Chinese Van 🚐
Whilst Prime Ministers play gesture politics on green issues we are seeing the wholesale closure of our industries. Gesture politics is destroying jobs Starmer should know better and The people of Luton loosing their jobs deserve better.
sad news.
British industry still dying.
Well done, take European businesses outside the traitors island. Brexit benefits for the EU, the uk is finished.
The governments push for zero emission… stupid EU laws and UK import laws.
Ugly designs of cars here in Europe …
Meaning these companies that used to sell cheap affordable cars , are now competing against Germans… there is no competition… Vauxhalls and similar low end brands are overpriced!
Nissian Sunderland going soon as well.
Who cares about Vauxhall vans , people does not have money to eat
Eventually brits will become healthier
I am surprised we have not lost Airbus UK yet.
