I served on the Midway from in 1977-1978. Then later on Enterprise in 1984-1985 and on Carl Vinson in 1990-1991. EVERYTHING on the Midway was cramped. Sleeping quarters, messes, hanger decks you name it, it was very crowded. It was built to carry 100 piston engine planes and carrying 65 jets and the personal required was a miracle of packaging. It was my first deployment so I didn't know things could be so much different/comfortable on the big carriers (Although "comfort" is a relative thing on a USN Vessel).
I love your videos Can you do the battle of the coral sea

8:46 that's Smokey from Arkansas, he died flying a mission off the Yorktown in the Pacific in 1945. So what's he doing testing missiles on the deck of the Midway in 1947?
My Uncle served on Midway? when it was deployed off Nam. He did air traffic control. Funny thing he trained to do that when he was in the air force. He served on several carriers until he retired. Good man!

I have been on the USS Midway as a museum in San Diego. Thank God it was saved and not scrapped.
