So… the One Piece is real. No joke, it’s out there, thanks to the late and great pirate Olivier Levasseur: Dude checked out dropping a necklace with a code that supposedly leads to a treasure that is worth $1 billion or possibly even $4 billion. But that’s not the only real thing about One Piece that I talk about in this video… there’s also the fact that Luffy is based on the monkey king Sun Wukong and Lord Hanuman. Then there’s the inspiration for Usopp and the demon king from Japanese mythology that inspired Kaido. A lot to talk about in my part two of the mythology and history that inspired One Piece.

麦わら mugiwara – means wheat/barley straw, which mugi is wheat/barley (when it is not harvested) – I think the context being called mugiwara is short for 麦わら帽子 – mugiwara boushi which the addition of boushi is hat. The fujiwara thing is a stretch. But I haven't done much looking into Fijiwara no Sumitomo, which does pique my interest.
